Taking road trip with my car

Within the next month i will be getting a new vehichle, whenever the owner gets a new car for himself hes selling his to me. (99 2wd blazer) Just so you dont have to ask.

My 88 CRX has 242,000 miles and i have owned it since december driving it everyday. The engine runs awesome, doesnt burn too much oil and has never given me a problem. The truck i am buying is near St. Louis, MO, 650 miles away from me. Me and my brother are probably going to drive my car there to pick it up.

Recent things i have done to motor: Changed oil, changed tranny oil, new battery and alternator since ive had the car, new spark plugs.

Should i be worried about my car making the trip there and back safely? What kinds of things should i check before i go besides topping off all fluids? I thnk there is more that i wanted to write so i will just ask again if if i think of anything.

Re: Taking road trip with my car

2 years ago my wife and I took a road trip from phoenix to LA to las vegas, starting on new years eve. we took hre 02 civic, and it broke down. Luckily we were close enogh to town that we swithced cars to my 91 crx si with 130k on it. It ran like a champ and i had to push it because we were very late for our plans. As long as your car is running good and there are no wierd noises, take the trip. I always have stuff with me expecting my car to break. Water, cell phone and cash aer good to have. take a route that goes through populated areas even if it is longer and you have doubt. I think you will make it. Check little things, if you can, timing belt. Mine just broke 2 weeks ago in phoenix during the day with my baby in the car, that sucked, so did the exhaust valvews being bent.

Re: Taking road trip with my car

Yep, tires were one of the things on my list. No noises from my car either. One of the things i was wondering was would the longer time that my car is drving put more stress on parts, like running for many hours nonstop? The longest time ive spent in my car was about an hour.

Re: Taking road trip with my car

Itll put less stress on it than stop and go driving, I wouldnt be worried, and if you know what your doing, you can fix a hell of alot on the side of the road.

cant fix anything without tools - bring a nice toolkit, socket set, etc.

Re: Taking road trip with my car

i heared you were sopposed to give your tires a little more than usuall when making big trips. like maybe 2-5 psi more not to much. just a little help. all very good things to know. i bought my car from los angelas and drove it 500 miles back to tucson, AZ. it had a real bad camber issue so watch for that. my tires were completely bald when i got home. on the inside anyway. just somthing else to watch for. i dident even realize this till i got home. lucky me. only costed 65 bucks in gas to go that far. it was a dx

Re: Taking road trip with my car

i wish but thats what i spent on gas. my car dident pass emissions because it was running rich so that probly played a big part in that.

Re: Taking road trip with my car

I drove to NJ and back and my tires were already shitty. They didn't mess up until I rotated them again. If you have a lowered car with negative camber, then of course you will wear away your tires faster. By the way, that trip was about 1600 miles round trip in a 3 day time period. The only problem I had was snow fucking up my body work and making my belts squeal like a whore.
