Are Cigars or Cigarettes worse for you?

Alright, I've had some debate lately about this ideal. And I want to know who knows what. I smoke cigars and I've had people saying "omg those are WAY worse than the cigarettes that I smoke, GEEZ!!" and I wanna know the truth!!

Re: Are Cigars or Cigarettes worse for you?

the problem with cigars is that there's no filter, cigarrettes do filter out alot of stuff with that. i don't know which is worse for you because the cigars are longer but the cigarettes have stuff added to them and burn paper instead of a tobacco leaf.

i have heard that cigars aren't as addictive so it's easier to quit. and i like the smell of cigars better than the smell of cigarettes, that's why i'm glad my dad switched to cigars a few years ago.

Well, if you're talking about lung cancer and tar, then obviously cigars are better than cigarettes. But cigars are more prone to cause mouth and throat cancer. Bottom line, smoking anything is not good for your health. It really comes down to how much you care.

Re: Are Cigars or Cigarettes worse for you?

are you talking about inhaling cigars or not? because if you're not inhaling the cigars then you don't have very much chance of lung cancer but more of mouth and throat as mentioned above.

true, but for those who are dead set on killing themselves (horrible pun intended) they want to know which will take longer.

Re: Are Cigars or Cigarettes worse for you?

Cigarettes are worse, they damage both your lungs and your mouth.
Cigars are not inhaled; therefore there is lower chance of lung cancer and emphysema.

Also, cigars are much less addictive. If you smoke one every now and then, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Finally, cigarettes have many more "unnatural" chemicals than cigars. Good cigars are basically pure tobacco; nothing is really added (with the exception of flavored cigars, which are dipped in flavored syrups).

I smoke around 4 cigars a week, but I also brush my teeth afterwards (not for health reasons, but more because of bad breath).
If your worried, I suppose you can use mouth wash or something after smoking.

Re: Are Cigars or Cigarettes worse for you?

Cigars smell bad to me and can make me naucious, cigarettes stink but not as bad and make my lungs tight, very light 'buzz', so I say cigarettes are worse.

And tobacco chew/chaw is just plain nasty in all respects.

I would use the term "a lot" very very loosely. I think it's more of a gimmick than anything.

Re: Are Cigars or Cigarettes worse for you?

here's something i found particularily terrible about cigarettes, any cig with a colored (black, cream, w/e) paper. I was smoking a Nat Sherman, flicked it into a puddle when i was done, continued to hold a conversation, and looked back at it, and saw the dye coming out. yeah, you're smoking those chemicals, too, so you're basically giving your lungs a new paint job as well as a waxing with the tar... except in this case, the end product isn't so hot.

as Jeremy Clarkson would say: "Why show up at the pearly gates looking gray with a tube up your nose, when you can come in backwards, on fire!"

i'll die in a spectacular high speed crash, thank you.
