Phoenix PD: apathy, or incompetence? (LONG, but true story)
Get this: my wife's friend/coworker, told us what happened to her sister last Thursday.
See, the sister lives in an apartment complex near North-Central Phoenix. She has had someone jiggle the front door of her apartment twice now. Meaning, It's nighttime, she's getting ready to go to bed, and there was some stranger that was twisting the door knob of her apartment, to test if it was unlocked. She yelled to see who was behind the door, but never an answer. She called the cops both times this has happened, and they have always treated it like it was just some prank, or something minor. So, basically, twice, the cops blew her off. Well, last Thursday, here's what happened: First off, the victim has small children. Her boyfriend was in the house with her, but left at about 8-9pm. She put her kids to bed, and she went in to her own room after turning out all the lights in her house. She watched TV until about 10:30pm, then turned the TV off, and laid down to go to bed. Well, she has these arcadia doors at the back of the apartment, which leads to the back-area of the apartment buildings, where there's a small patio area, with no fencing or wall around it. For this reason, she put the headboard of her bed against the arcadia doors, because she doesn't wan't her small children going out back and playing in the unfenced area behind her apartments. At about 10:45pm, someone punched through the arcadia door. The story is, she was laying in bed, a crash, and suddenly there was an arm above her head, clawing for the arcadia door's inside latch/handle. The sister actually got rugburns--she crawled away from the bed so fast. She has a gun, but it was locked in the closet, and she didn't have time to get it, so she got up, turned the lights on in her room, grabbed her phone, and ran to her kids' room, turning on all the lights she could as she went along. She called 911 from her kids' room. The 911 dispatch treated the call as if it was simply about someone breaking a window. She SCREAMED at the dispatcher how desperate the situation was. Dispatcher estimated officers to show within 5-6 minutes. First travesty. She then calls her mom, who lives at least 15-20 minutes away, from the far West end of the Valley (victim lives near North Central). THE MOM GETS UP, GETS DRESSED, GETS TO THE APARTMENT, AND HAS TO CALL PHOENIX PD TO ASK WHEN THEY ARE COMING. When the cops do come, they ALSO treat it like it was some case of vandalism. THEY HAD CLEAR FINGERPRINTS, IN BLOOD, FROM THE BLINDS THAT WERE BEHIND THE ARCADIA DOORS. The cops did NOT take any fingerprints, take pictures, NOTHING. The mom was YELLING at these cops to get their acts together, but they left with little to no investigation done. The boyfriend, along with the apartment management, did more than the Phoenix PD officers ever did. They took pictures, the boyfriend cut out the piece of the blind with the bloody fingerprints on it and bagged it, etc. Now, with the time of attack I mentioned above, wouldn't it be obvious that someone was watching her? They knew she was laying down; that the boyfriend was out of the house. This, during a time when there are two, or more serial rapists, shooters, loose in the Metro Phoenix area. Needless to say, the mom and the boyfriend plan to raise holy-stink about this. Especially considering her and her kids might be dead right now, if the attacker (NOT vandal), did not get spooked by all the lights coming on in the house. Apathy, or incompetence? You decide.

Re: Phoenix PD: apathy, or incompetence? (LONG, but true story)
There've been a series of scandals in NZ here about cops being apathetic. A woman called to say she'd been raped, they told her to walk to the nearest police station. Also, another woman got told to catch a taxi.
On Saturday night we were harrassed by a bunch of like, 14 year old girls, well, only one of them was causing trouble, and we live on the edge of the projects, so we didn't want to get too involved. Basically this chick was just high on something and going nuts punching my flatmate and shit, we tried to get her off so her other mates joined in, eventually we're like fuckit, call the cops just as we get her off and get her to walk off. She runs past me, grabs my hat off my head and runs off with her mates. What do the police say, while she's attacking my flatmate and then steals my hat? "There's not really a lot we can do, eh." I was way too fucked to run after her, and like I said, they ran straight to the projects, and the last thing I want to do when I have to work the next morning is run into some homie faggot out for a fight cos his little sister says some guys attacked her. I liked that hat, too. Yes, I'm aware that I got mugged by a 14 year old girl. Kindly STFU

Arcie, I think they should bring it to the attention of the local news channels.

That is sad. Both incompetence and apathy.
If it were a cop's wife or family member they would have Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) all over the place. It is like that all over the country. ![]()

Carnutt...doesn't Channel 3 news have an investigation teams? PHPD are HORRIBLE! I thought Chicago was bad but this takes the cake. PHPD is hiring 500 officers, and I do hope they hire the right ppl.

The news station idea has definitely been considered. My wife hasn't had a chance to talk to the family, but I definitely want to know what goes down.

Re: Phoenix PD: apathy, or incompetence? (LONG, but true story)
Police are incompetent fucking bastards full stop, at least in New Zealand. Frankly though I blame the government the most, they've turned the police from a once competent crime fighting unit into a blatant mobile checkpoint.
Such as 3 or 4 months ago my mums car was broken into in a Wilsons carpark structure in Newmarket (Which is an upmarket shopping and business suburb in Auckland, thieves broke 2 windows, took her handbag which had chequebooks, creditcards, keys to our house, stuff with our address on it etc. She went to see the security officers who were awesome, they checked camera footage, found the break in, with clear photos of the perps and the registration make/model of the car they were in and burnt it to DVD. Mum hands in DVD to the police, has to go through extreme trouble of changing locks, cancelling credit cards/chequebooks, new drivers license etc). 4 months on, not so much as a police report has been filed. Yet I get pulled over for 70 km/h in a 50 km/h zone at 1 am on a 4 lane road and the dickhead hands me a ticket and says if I don't pay $120 in 28 days I go to court, bullshit. I wanted to believe that the Police were actually doing thier job, but it's blatantly clear that 70% of them are pricks, I just feel sorry for the ones who do want to make a difference in thier community and get lumped with this bullshit. Hearing stories like the one in this thread just makes me irritated. |
