Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
^ Are you handy with a soldering iron... do you own a multimeter?? Can you figure out what all of those confusing terms in the book mean??? Nope, I didn't think so
. I'm not trying to be a dick man, but I installed that same alarm in my car, and the manual doesn't help worth shit; 200 to install it is okay, I know places that'll do it for 100, but the bottom line is that they're trained to know how to read the manual. Yes, I installed the alarm, but it took me and my dad (who I might add knows exactly what he's doing with a manual and a wiring diagram for my car) over 8 days to install it, and we were working about 8+ hours a day. Save yourself the headache, and find a cheaper place to do it. Trust me, you'll thank yourself in the end.

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
I am damn good with electronics and wouldnt install an alarm myself. too much can go wrong. I assisted in installing a remote starter on a car for my mom and it kept giving us issues. There were times it would take control over the car and acted like the car was idling in the driveway when you were driving down the road. And that was a "simple" install. An alarm is alot more complex. Pony up the cash and have it installed by a pro.

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
I agree with what's been said here. I have the exact same alarm and tried installing it last summer and it was a pain in the @$$. After a day and a half, we only had the keyless entry, ignition kill, shock sensor, and a couple other things figured out. Not only that but our set-up was pretty damn nasty with wires everywhere. I eventually took it to a shop and paid about $275 for it to get restripped and redone. Overall, the install was good but dude couldn't find the trunk wire so he put an ugly trigger in the trunk so I eventually had to go back and redo that part because I couldn't stand the trigger. So yeah, I think $200.00 is a great deal as long as they hook everything up properly. One thing that I didn't get installed was the actual remote start because I heard that there are a lot of problems with a manual with the remote start feature. Don't really know though but just to be safe I left it out.
But yeah, depending on what you decide to do...good luck...

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
^ I didn't install the remote start becuase viper monitors the RPMs and in some cases it has been known to kill the car if you're climbing up really high in the RPM range

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
stay far far away from the wireless remotes... my viper alarm crapped out on me and for a month or so everynow and then my remote would turn the starter, not enough to start it but it would try.. and one day when i got home and walked into the door, it actually started the damn thing.. and then i tryed my best to kill the whole alarm system but every now and then my doors will still automaticly lock themselfs and ive only got one set and they can lock when the keys are inside so its a lil scary but ive yet to be screw cus of that ... but ya im a big hatter of viper alarms now...

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
^Did you install the alarm or what?? Becuase only certified installers for the most part have a device that they can connect to the viper's computer, and they program certain things in such as that.

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
^yea, you have to find where they put the shock detector... if you know where the viper computer is, you can follow the lines to the shocker... if you take your car in, and ask the tech to plug his thing into the viper's computer, you can set it's featuers to your liking...
P.S. Clifford makes the best alarms

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
If it was professionally installed, the shock sensor should be on the steering column (I used to know why it was one of the best places for it, but now I forget).
I am not sure I would say clifford is the best... I have a few family members as well as my self that have been using alpine and have had no complaints... The only complaint so far is they are a bit on the expensive side (duel level shock sensor [didn't go off on the ferry but does when someone kicks the wheel] including the standard stuff (immobilizer, etc...), optional interior motion sensors, pager interface if you want...) |

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
Clifford FTW! that's what i've had on my car for the past 3.5 years. no problems whatsoever. except the Immobilizer (kill-start, whatever you wanna call it) malfunctioned and wouldn't allow the car to start, so i just bypassed that, took it to Car Toys where i bought it, and they gave me an entirely NEW clifford alarm (under warranty).
my shock sensor has a knob by which i can change its sensitivity. when turned up all the way at its most sensitive level, a truck with a loud exhaust can set off the warning chirps. but i turn it down a little do i don't hear the chirps all the time. i'm very happy with Clifford. i've known others who have had only great experience with Clifford alarm systems.

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
wells since were on the subject, my stock alarm is retarted
if someone closes the passenger door after i have closed my door and locked it, then the alarm will go off about 5 min later i think it has something to do with the turbo timer

Re: 3000gt Alarm Help
^lol....does the turbo timer unlock the doors when it turns the car off? mine will do that too. kinda sux...gotta wait for the TT to shut off before arming it. kinda defeats the whole purpose of a turbo timer...
