Headers with Cat(s)

What are some good headers that are street legal, meaning you can have a converter also? I'm hearing about Hookers, Jet Hot LTs, Pacesetter LTs, can these be legal and fitted with a cat?

Re: Headers with Cat(s)

I don't see how the Headers affect whether you can have a cat or not.

The cat is mounted on the exhaust pipe after the manifold. I don't have any experiance with headers, but don't headers use the same exhaust pipe the manifolds did?

Re: Headers with Cat(s)

Well I'm hearing about shorties and longtubes and how LTs are much better. Why are they called Long tubes?

well...

they probably do headers with a long tube to compensate for the gap from using a cat, and they might have headers with shorter tubes for when you use a cat.

Re: Headers with Cat(s)

yeah.. the legal ones (the ones you HAVE to use in Cali) have to have the AIR tubes.. edelbrock makes shorty headers that have the air tubes.. and the cats come after the y pipe.

So is the answer, only shorties are street legal or can LTs be made with a cat?

Longtube headers can have a cat welded on. The cat(s) come after the Y-pipe, so the type of headers you have don't affect you having a cat or not. Pacesetter makes race and emissions LT's but only have one y-pipe, an offroad kind. So, in order to stay emissions legal, you have to have a cat put on after the install.

I'm assuming it's the muffler's fault (robbing power) so add those together, what percent of power is lost with a high performance catback and a high flow cat's power compared to open headers power.

I was wondering, if you were in China, does a wheel bearing spin the other way?

hahaha. yeah.. and the firing order is the opposite, you take in air from the exhaust and your exhaust fumes come out the intake manifold.
