Steering audio controls + air bag question

the lights on my streering wheel are new flickering on and off - any ideas on where to change or do?

Also is it easy to change the air bag? Mine is fine but the plastic is starting to crack.

any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Steering audio controls + air bag question

well.. i'd say he drives a firebird, and a newer model which has backlit steering wheel controls.. smartass. Way to be a jerk to a forum n00b.

Welcome to the forums, beatbuilder.

anyhow. since they are all flickering at the same time, i'd assume its not one of the buttons in particular which has a loose connection. My guess is that a previous owner cut into this line for one reason or another, sometimes to enable dimming on some components (like backlit cd-changer remotes or such)
Check under your steering column for any suspicious wirejobs... that bottom panel comes off with a coule of hex-head screws.
prolly just a loose wire.

Alright kids.. now lets play nicely

Didn't your parents ever teach you.. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all.

Re: Steering audio controls + air bag question

Hello,

I had to re-format my hard drive and I though it would log in ok to my "thebroken" account but failed to.

To give more details I have a 95 firebird 3.4 and on the stering wheel it has the backlit controls.

Question 1

As of tonight the steering wheel controls while they do work perfectly the (streering control) lights (all of them) were going off and on. I have the stock monsoon cd stereo and it works perfect in every other way.

Question 2

How hard is it to change the steering wheel air bag? the plastic on the center air bag part is starting to crack.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: Steering audio controls + air bag question

yep...broken wiring or bad ground/connection on the light prolly.. and the airbag..mm might be dangerous to change yourself @_@; you prolly have to leave the battery disconnected for like an hour to be safe or so..before you even want to touch the airbag. (might deploy!)
