2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport overheating
Need help...Jeep has over 120K miles on it...runs like a champ in the cooler months, but once Texas heat hits, wham! hot as heck, but only when the Jeep idles in traffic. I have had the radiator flushed, water pump replaced, put in at least 3 new thermostats and replaced the radiator hoses. Do I have to replace the radiator or does someone out there have an idea on what to do next? I have to be able to turn on the a/c- TX is hot! I am not a mechanic so when replying, apply the KISS principle, please. Trying to save some money rather than take it in.

Re: 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport overheating
You said it gets "hot as heck"...but does it actually overheat?
If it's not overheating you probably just need some extra cooling power. To that end, there are several threads here about 3 core radiator replacements, and a bit more about a hood you can put on to increase airflow. Check out this thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=548075 and this link: http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoBonnet.htm The link goes to a website of a guy that replaced his hood...very good article and it seems it was an easy replacement.

Do you use the AC?
Does the electric fan work? When you turn on the AC the electric fan should turn on. Open the hood and check the operation and then report back. |
