Priming Jag out of gas?
Anybody up late with advice? My 2001 Jaguar XJ8 ran out of gas in my driveway. . .put about 5 gal of gas in--will not start. No problems like this before. Is there a way I can "Prime" it (as in the old carburetor days), or any other ideas, please?
Thanks |

Re: Priming Jag out of gas?
You may need a fuel pump, hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve on the right hand side of the engine.

Thanks for the info. I was able to get it to the Jag house--and, sure enough--new fuel pump. It was an expensive way to run out of gas. Obviously, the solution is not to run out of gas. Is it likely that my trying to start it caused it to overheat and damage the fuel pump--or was the fuel pump already bad, maybe? It is a 2000 XJ8--65000 miles. Thanks again for your input! Larry |

Re: Priming Jag out of gas?
Larry,
Glad to hear it is corrected. What happens is the pump is running constantly and when the fuel level is not above the fuel pump itself it is not being cooled by the surrounding fuel. In affect, the pump heats up and the windings in the motor will fail. In some cases the link lead will also fail due to overheating but depends. Take care, Scott |
