broken bolts

Hello again!
Got such good help last time I was hoping someone could help me with a bad problem.

The vehicle was overheating, so I looked underneath it and saw a lot of water pouring onto the ground. It was coming from b/w the water pump and the motor. I took out the radiator and accessories driven by the belt to free up some room then proceeded to remove the water pump and thermostat housing. All the bolts but three came out easily. I twisted three of the heads off when trying to get them out. One on the water pump and both on the thermostat housing. I have tried to heat them up with a cheap propane heater ( I don't have any torches and can't find any where I can get some without buying them) but the thing would not budge. tried a kit I bought at advance auto parts to no avail either. I'm at my wits end and have found no one who could help me around where I live. What should I do? Will this mean I have to replace the engine? Can I replace the water pump with the one broken bolt? What should I do about the thermostat housing? I am at a loss. Thanks for ANY help!

You may be able to replace the water pump with one bolt missing but I would not recommend it. Is part of the bolts still protruding from the block? Have you tried a small hand held butane torch?
Try soaking them down with PBlaster as well. Do not use WD-40 it is not a catalyst like blaster is. If none of the afore mentioned ideas work then most likely, you will need to drill them and try to extract them with an easy out.

You can get a good little propane torch at most hardware stores for about 40$, that will produce a hotter flame than the el cheapos. Also, if you buy one , get a bottle of the MAPP gas to go with it, it produces a hotter flame than propane. The torch you have may get it hot enuff, but heat the area surrounding the bolt, instead of heating the bolt directly. Tap on the end with a hammer as you heat, and once you get it as hot as you can, try working it back and forth, if it moves at all. If it acts like it wants to sieze up, stop, let it cool, and start over. If theres enuff sticking out, sometimes you can slip a nut the next size over it and weld it to the bolt. Then you can get a wrench/impact on it, and that and the heat will usually get em. If you have to drill em, grind the end flat to get a good starting point, and mark the center as close as you can, center punch it, and drill a 1/8 pilot hole, increasing the size of the bit till you get to the size for your tap. When you get em out, tap all the holes, clean the threads on the bolts, and use anti sieze when you put it back together. An eze out may work, but heat first and drive the eze out in last, work quickly , if you get the eze out too hot, itll take the temper out of it and itll be useless. Good luck.

Thanks for the great advice! I wound up having to drill out the bolts. It was easy once i borrowed my dad's drill bits. They were extra hard for this type of work. The easy out didn't get the bolts out, so this was the route I chose. It ended up great! Thanks for the help!
