86 6000 no spark
Heres the lowdown, car was running great, then just died coming home. changed the coil, started right up, ran for two days, died again. Now will not start, I have replaced the coil (again) the module, and the pick-up. I am getting power to coil on one wire with key on.. I know the distributor spins with engine, and I have checked the fuses, by the way it is the 4 cylinder fuel injected. would sure appreciate some help on this one.

Re: 86 6000 no spark
have you checked for fuel pressure?

Re: 86 6000 no spark
Have not checked actual pressure, I know with the line disconnected at the tbi if I turn key on, I get a good shot of fuel out of the hose. would this have any affect on the spark?

Re: 86 6000 no spark
Are you sure it's not getting spark? I mis-read your post when you said you were getting voltage at the coil, I thought you said you were getting spark at one of the plug wires, my bad. Check for free play in the distributor shaft. IF there is too much wobble, the pick-up coil will short out and not fire. You can check resistance in the pickup to be sure you didn't get a bad new part, it should be 500-1500 ohms. The module can be tested at most chain auto parts stores.

Re: 86 6000 no spark
I had the module tested, they said it was ok. I will try the testing the ohms on the pick-up.. I get voltage to one wire to coil, should one of the other three wires have voltage also?

Re: 86 6000 no spark
No, one is the trigger wire, one is a signal back to the ECM and the other is ground.

Re: 86 6000 no spark
the pickup is good 850 ohms, and the distributor feels pretty tight (wobble wise).. could the ecm be bad? I know I have power to it(ecm).. what else am I missing?? I know the fuel pump is pumping, not sure pressure, I noticed the nozzle doesn't spray when turning it over, is this normal until running? or another problem?? anyone have a cliff to push this off-of

Re: 86 6000 no spark
It should spray while turning over. If you're not getting spark, the fuel pump relay will shut off fuel to prevent flooding. Try spraying starting fluid in the throttle body. If it starts, then you have a fuel issue. Your next thing would be to get a fuel pressure tester and see if you have enough pressure if it fires with starting fluid. Check the white wire at the coil, which is the signal wire to the ECM. If the connector is corroded or loose, it will cause what you are experiencing.

Re: 86 6000 no spark
have four wires to distributor two whites, a red, and a purple. one white goes to a connector that is not connected to anything (maybe tach??) the other white and red go to distributor and plug into module (both test ok with ohm meter) the purple goes into loom and runs to a big connector on firewall (ohm's ok to here) then looks like it runs into cab.. also have checked for spark at plugs and out of coil to dist wire (screwdriver against metal) no spark at all. have also tried putting some gas down t.b. with no result.. this car seems differant than what my haynes manual says it should be for the year. so finding correct diagrams is difficult.. sure appreciate the help
