Ford Cologne 2.8 V6 engine kitsource?

Hi there,

I want to scratch build a car of which there are no models produced ever. My dad owns one of these and I wnat to suprise him with it. It has a carburetted 2.8L Ford V6 in it and since scratch building the exteriour is hard enough, I want to get that engine from a kit. Which kit has a 2.8L Ford V6 in it? The car was built between 1983 and 1992.

Here is an interesting link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Cologne_V6_engine

Thanks a lot

Oh, 1/24 offcourse.

The AMT Ford Ranger kits have a V6 in them, but I do not have a manual handy to tell you which one it is. They are the 93-97 model, all identical kits save the wheels, and the Ranger Splash's step-side bed.

Re: Ford Cologne 2.8 V6 engine kitsource?

The old AMT Capri's have them, as do any of the early MPC Mustang II's. I'm not sure but the current issue AMT/Ertl Mustang II (original AMT tool) might have one too. These are all 1/25 scale, but would probably work ok for 1/24. The only "true" 1/24 Cologne V6 is in the Tamiya Ford Sierra. It's fuel injected, but has nice detail. You could probably scratch up a carburated manifold for it. The AMT/Ertl Rangers and Explorers have the 4.0L version of this engine, but they're fuel injected too.

The motor in the Ranger is a 4.0 litre, and has modern fuel injection. so that would'nt work

Re: Ford Cologne 2.8 V6 engine kitsource?

I have a spare V6 block out of a Tamiya XR4i, but I'm doubting wether it's an Essex or a Cologne.
What is the car, a Granada or a Capri?

That engine will do perfectly. From the sources I read this is the correct engine, only injected, but I can solve that problem by scratch building the carburetted parts. Is your block already built or still in the frame?

My engine block is just that- a block. All the belts and injection aren't with it, just the block, headers, gearbox and camcovers, built together. I got it from a built up Tamiya XR4i kit i'll be using as a donor for a early McRae Cosworth.
Edit: I see you live in Groningen, I live in Delft. If you want I can send it to you.

Is this the XR4i one? I found a AMT capri kit, but it is quite pricey.

Thanks, but I want to look for a complete one first. Would be much easier. If I can't find a proper one I will contact you.

Re: Ford Cologne 2.8 V6 engine kitsource?

Tamiya has only made a full-detail Sierra XR4i, and a curbside RS500, so I think he's referencing the XR4i kit. But once again, what car do you need this engine for? Because the only Ford Europe cars I can think of that could have had the 2.8 V6 and was made between 1983 and 1992 is either a early Sierra, a late Sierra Sapphire (4-door), or a Scorpio (Sold as Granada in the UK).
There is a model available of each of these cars.

Re: Ford Cologne 2.8 V6 engine kitsource?

The Sierra I'm referring to is the XR4i. I have some parts left over from a drag car I built back in 1989. I hav most of the engine parts, but I'm missing one valve cover.

It is a Panther Kallista, built in England untill a few years back when the company Panther Westwinds went broke.
Only problem is that I have absolutely no experience with making molds etc. Will have to do a search for that. Can I make a wooden exterior, make it into a mold and then pour plastic in it? Problem is taht there are no technical drawings for the car and I can not measure up the car of my dad since it has to be a suprise. Will let you know the progress.

Thanks a lot! I found the AMT/ERTL Mustang II and it offers a choice to build a V8 or the V6 I am looking for! Now I will wait untill I get the kit and see if I can also use the chassis and maybe other parts. I already made a mold of cley I can wrap the plastic around if I heat it so I have a basic shape to work from. Hope it will work out.
