Question Motor Swap?

I have a 1998 Malibu with the 3100 v6 auto setup. I was wondering if i could replace this motor with a 3100 from a 2001 Malibu? Please go into detail on what is different and what parts need to be changed. Wiring?Fuel lines?Computer? Vacuum lines?Bellhousing bolts?Flywheel bolts?Extra sensors?

Re: Motor Swap?

I do not know from my own experience, i saw it mentioned in another post for a totally different subject that the Mal engine was the same from 98 - 2002. I do not know how accurate that is. Have you seen the 2002 motor. One item i have noticed on GM v6 engines is they have the last 2 digits of the year stamped on the right side upper front of the engine. Like my 98 malibu has 98, my 2003 Impala has 00, so if the 2002 hsa 98 that may back up the claim that the engines are the same ... or it may mean nothing at all.
