Re: 96 Grand Am 2.4 Lifter Cracked
Welcome to AF!!
Your only recourse in this situation will be to replace the head on the engine. It is possible that the head cracked when the gasket went bad. It is also possible that the head was warped and that is why the compression is low. Try car-part.com for a wrecking yard in your area for a new head. Make sure it is completely flat and that the block is not warped before installing the new head. |

Re: 96 Grand Am 2.4 Lifter Cracked
What GTP Dad said is possible, but is there any chance you had the cams timed wrong, I mean way out of where they should be? If so your valves could have been coming down when the piston was coming up, resulting in bent valves & broken lifters. A bent valve will not seal, and this is the only thing that I can think of that would satisify both of your problems, well that is if the 2.4 L is an interference motor. Good luck and I hope im not right.
