LT1 question

where are the spark plugs on an LT1? Are there any years that came with a coil pack (may be confused about this) ? How hard is it to change them on a fourth gen?

Re: LT1 question

they are pretty hard to change. They are under the exhaust manifold. The far back one on the passenger side is put near impossible. When I was taking my heads off, I had to take the exhaust manifold off before I could get that plug. It is possible to get it with them on though, I just didn't want to spend to much time trying to figure out how to take out an already bad spark plug.

They deffinately arn't easy to change.

Is the LT1 block the same design as my TPI?

I was just saying that because that's where the plugs are on a TPI.

side note, you've got a Monte Carlo with a Northstar???

I'll soon have the engine sitting in the car, I've got two more engine swaps, and some other odd jobs before I can start work on it..

Huh? I am, I'm buying a car with an LT1 and 6 speed. I'm asking how hard it is to change plugs when I don't have..let's see forever because I need it for transportation.

Re: LT1 question

a LT1 is the same basic design as a traditional SBC. It shares alot of the same sensors as a TPI and yes the TPI and LT1 have the same spark plug lay out. The reason the LT1 is harder to change has nothing to do with the engine itself and more to do with the cramped engine bay.

Also, no coil pack was available stock but many people like Dave/drvngstorm have adapted a delteq system using the Northstars coil pack to the LT1.

Re: LT1 question

Tell me there's less plumbing to an LT1, I hate that on the TPI.
