97 metro check engine light

Hello all,
I just purched this car a week ago and just going over some problems.
The check engine light is on I looked at the fuse box and could not see any raised fuse holder to check out the codes. What do I need to do?
Thank you,
Jeff

Re: 97 metro check engine light

I sugest a trip to Auto Zone if you have one near by. Ask for a free scan.
Otherwise you might purchase an Actron Super Scanner, nice tool. Much cheaper than a few trips to have the dealer do it. Good for all your other cars to.

Re: 97 metro check engine light

I went to Auto Zone and found that the Idel speed control/Aux. input triped the check engine light. they couldn't get one and sujested a part from GM or pick-and-pull. Can I get this part aftermarket some other place or is there a different problem I should be looking at?
Thanks for all the help.
Jeff

Re: 97 metro check engine light

If had to replace my isc (idel speed control solenoid) about a year ago. I think we are talking about the same part
I purchased mine through RockAuto.com
They have many parts available for our cars.

I went to Rockauto.com and they wanted 135.00 or so for the part. Did this cure the problem? How can I check to see if this part is bad?

As long as I'm showing how smart I am, Which is the better manual Chilton, Hanes or ?
Thank you,
Jeff

Re: 97 metro check engine light

I don't know how you can check to see if your part is bad. The idle on my car would go up and down as I would be slowing down. Geozuki is the one that suggested that my ics might be bad. So I went with his suggestion and all has been well since. My check engine light had never come on. I have a 93 5 speed convertible. Maybe things are different in yours because its a 97
