Question Brake noise

Hey,

My 1999 Grand am coupe 2.4 makes this really annoying creaking sound after I press the brake pedal down. the noise happens when I release the pedal. Its a loud creaking, scheaching sound, almost like the brake cable is dry and is rubbing on something. Anybody any ideas. Thank a lot

Re: Brake noise

Do you have front discs and rear drums or do you have discs all the way around. If you have drums in the rear I suggest you pull them off and see if they are extremely dusty in side or if the shoes are shot. Sometimes they will groove the drums and will not release totally when you let off the brake causing this type of noise. If the noise is coming from the front check to see if the pads are worn out if not then check to see if the calipers are releasing fully. This would go for rear discs as well. They can make some strange noises when they don't release fully including causing the brake pads to wear out prematurely and cause noise.
