Gorgeous! Is the flip-flop paint prototypical? It looks great either way. Top work.

Beautiful work Steve. Too inspire others to build this must be a huge compliment.

Re: Sonax Mercedes Completed Pics

Hi,

when I saw the real car in Hockenheim at its first race, this colour was a secret. In those days one litre was said to cost over 500 Euros.

Nice to see that it is possible to make with Alclad nowadays.

Very nice model

Fabulous! I've always wondered what the true colour of this car was. For the flip-flop argument, you make a strong case!

Re: Sonax Mercedes Completed Pics

Fantastic model and very nice pictures! Only the first red line of the tail lights should be a bit thicker compared to original i think.

i´ve always thought the sonax-c-class would have brown as base colour, like Tamiyas box-art. Does anyone have some bigger pics of the original?

You are right about the tail lights they should be a little bit thicker.I think the brown version you refer to was a later car sponsored by the UPS parcel company? The box art on the Tamiya kit is green not brown.Although I must confess I am not an expert on the subject. Thanks to you all for the positive feedback. It is nice to know what other people think and it means so much more when it comes from fellow model makers as well.

Further to the flip-flop colour topic, here are a couple of pictures of the real-life car:

Steve - cracking job. I've still not done any more on mine yet though.

Here's a scanned pic from 1994 showing Schneider's Diepholz winning car - note it has a different mirror arrangement, 'Hockenhiem' style wheels and check out the colour shift from the front spoiler (dark green) to the rear wheel arches (greeny blue?). I recall watching some footage from the 94 season on MotorsTv and Schneiders car definatley had a flip paint on it, though very subtle. Alclads paint isn't exact (the green is too light) but it'll do until something else appears.
