99 jetta eheck engine light ?

I have a 99 jetta VR6 The check engine light came on 2 codes one misfire, I replaced the plug wires (what a pain in the ass) and the other is "secondary air injection incorrect flow" I shut off the light and it comes back on with the seconadry air code. What the hell is secondary air injection? where should I even start? The closest VW dealer is +2 hour drive so that really isn;t an option plus I work 70 hours a week 7 days a week during the summer so I can't really be without a car. I have no idea what to check?

Re: 99 jetta eheck engine light ?

Not all but some of this engines have a fresh air pump that sends air to the exhaust, this is for emissions purposes. Maybe the pump is damaged.
