99 4-Runner sluggish shifting while cold

First thing in the morning when I leave out, my 4-Runner will shift into 2nd with no problem, but struggles pretty hard to get into 3rd until the engine warms up. After I have driven it for a few minutes and as the engine warms up, then this goes away completely. Do I have a problem or is this normal behavior for a 4-Runner? I have 120K miles. Thanks for any help.

My 97 4Runner (78K miles) behaves the same way as you stated. From what I've learned this is normal for this generation 4runner.
