Evo VIII

Okay so I'm new in this forum, but i happen to know more about Evo VIII than anyone else you might knowm, probably, anyway. Okay, so I work in sales at a Mitsubishi store, and my boss happens to be on the american Evo board, who get to know all the fun facts about the car than anyone else. It like an elite group of dealers. anyway, so here's what i know:

About 285 ponies. Active differential like EvoVII with the selectable traction control (tarmac, gravel, snow). Carbon fibre mono- wing...UNPAINTED. Aluminum hood. Altezza style tail lights. Brembos on all 4 corners. Stops in 107. 0-60 in 4.6. High 12's in the quarter. MSRP (before advertising, destination and handling), $29,995. It is unreal! And yes, i do know how to get you into one... at msrp, no markup! Anyone who is serious can caontact me through email and i'll tell you what we need to do. Also i would have in cluded a picture that I understand to be hightly accurate, but its too big. Too see it go to evo club italy and go to evo 8 and look at the drawing of the yellow one.

The EVO VIII will be around 250hp so they can drop the price to compete with the nissan 350Z. The price goal is going to be 28K to 30K. Yes, Yes, all cars have upgraded models but as far is the 2003 model, it's not looking good. Maybe later in the year but not anytime soon.

very good news, if mits-man 1 is telling the truth which i believe he is then I would have to negate the rumor that tattude brought up about the 250 ponies. wow, i do believ the evo 6 looks the best, but the 8 doesnt look half bad, some volk se37 rims, window tint on that black car, and an eibach pro kit and your set with a great car.

EVO VIII?

Well mitsu-man might know lots but its false. The new EVO VIII will not have ACD/AYC than means that you will not be able to select between gravel, snow, tarmac. Mitusbishi is doing this to cut down on cost and service. The EVO VIII should only be about 5 less HP than the Jap spec EVO which is rated at 275HP with the torque to match. It will still have killer all-wheel-drive and the recaro seats with brembo breaks on all 4 wheels. This is a sweet car.

Does anyone actualy know any real facts?
Sounds like nothing more than rumors floating around the internet at the moment.

But take this into consideration:
It cost Mitis more to build a US spefic model.
It is easier for them to simply supply the US with LHD cars in the same spec as Europe. (where the EVO has been sold in LHD for many years)
If you do get a stripped down lower hp version it will be for marketing reasons only. i.e. Mitsi dont think the US could handle the full spec version, or it would be to fast and compete with other Mitsi or crysler models, or it would be to slow to compete with other cars in its class and so stipped down.

Emissions have nothing to do with it, Japan currently has emissions laws as tough as or thougher than then even California.
There is no rational reason why the car should have less hp than the JDM version.

Not fitting the AYC and ACD would have nothing to do with service intervals etc. That is BS, the system is just as reliableas an open or more conventional LSD center diff, and requires the same level of service. i.e. none.

The EVO VIII is also likely to look little differnt than the EVO VII, look at the EVO and V and VI, or the III and IV, or way back to the I and II.
The car has a history of lasting to generations before a major make over. I will of course look differnt, but not by much.
It will be ugly. A pretty looking EVO would just be wrong.

It will be made and sold in limited numbers, but only in a very lose sense of the word. The car will be destined for mass production, especialy is sold in the US, just not on the same scale as most mass produced cars, e.g. the Lancer.

And finnaly the EVO VII is not actualy based on the Lancer, but on its Japanese brother the Cedia. Same platform as the Lancer, but its a little larger over all. Why? well Mitsi give some BS PR reason, but it makes it a perfect size for the US and European Markets, where the people are generally bigger than the Japanese.
It follows that the VIII will be based on the Cedia as well. (since all even numbered EVOs have merely been developments of the odd numbered version they follow)

EVO VIII

As much as you don't want to believe it I have heard for Motortrend and Automitive Mag. that there will be no AYC and ACD becuase of service and cost. This is because if it does happen to break down it will cost much more becuase of the labor and parts. Also LSD is much easer to repair than AYC and ACD. Mitsu might have the AYC and ACD as an option but noting more. Also no matter what the U.S. version will have less HP than the Jap Spec one. This might be due to a more restrictive air box and the fact that the Jap spec model doesn't have a cat converter. Also the EVO VII might be heavier because of crash testing the front bumper.

does it matter wether the Hp's are different cause of a smaller intercooler, or that it might or might not have a AYC and ACD????? NO

it doesnt matter
it will still spank a WRX it will still spank every other car in the US currently Including that Tit's porsche who lives down the street!

so stop complaining abuot rumor or who said what and buy one if you can find one

ummm? righhhhhttt.......

I guess if you'll believe that then you'll believe anything.

Most automotive magazines are no better than womens tabloids when it comes to future cars.
Instead of making up gossip about famous ppl, most of which is lies, they make up gossip about furture car models, most of which is lies.

Go and get an old copy of any mag and check out the specs and expected designs etc for any current new car. See how differnt and often exagerated they are, and then try and tell me your information from Motortrend and Automitive Mag and accurate.

Also learn a little about designing manufactoring and servicing modern cars before you believe the magazines. Many Auto Journalists are famous for not actualy knowing anything about the automotive industry other than the propganda feed to them in 5 star hotels by car manufactors. Hoever it only becomes truely apprent if you get to work within the industry.

From what I have heard the Japanese run higher octane gas and therefore the cars are tuned to get slightly higher performance than we do. Does this accout for all the losses? Probably not but I am sure we will see increased performance as Mitsu and Subaru one up each other. In the mean time lets just wait to see what numbers this car actually comes out with. Speculate all you want but until mitsubishi post specs on an american web page everything is really just here say.

The Japanese have possibly the highest quality and highest octane fuel in the world, it was demanded by the Manufactors so they could meet the emmissions requirments, and simply because the Japanese like to have the best of everything.

The result was during the 80s and 90s many cars were made in a Japanese tune, and a rest of world tune. Often it just a simple differnce in timing, and often it was a differnce in Compression ratio.

However as other countries most noteably Europe and the US start to make tougher and tougher emissions laws the Japanese have learned to work with lower and lower quality and octane fuel.
And to save costs have often dropped the Japan spefic engines.

Infact there are now very few cars sold in Japan that are differnt in engine spec to what the rest of the world gets.
The new Type R Integra is the only exception I can think of. (its has 220hp vs 200)

Besides which the current EVO VII with 280+hp is already sold in countrys with much lower octance fuel than is avliable in the US, most noticably here in NZ, and several European countries.

There is no technical reason why the US version of the EVO should have less hp, or lowe spec. There are marketing reasons of course.
You have to remember both Subaru with the WRX and Mitsi are entering a market where cars like the EVO and WRX are totaly unheard of, except by a very small segemt of the population, and they will have to pitch them against long standing and well respected cars like the Mustang and Corvette.
It makes sense that will take a typicaly Japanese Conservative approach to the Market by starting with lower spec cars that wont cause to much of a fuss. They also have thier American Market image to think about, remember Japanese sports cars are not that common in the US, the Supra, RX7 and Mitsi GTO, NSX and S2000 being about it.
Honda even went to the trouble of selling thier spots cars under another name so as not to ruin thier market image, (hence Acura).
It is quite conceviable that people might stop buying other Mitsi models if the EVO gets a bad recpetion. i.e. its seen as being to fast and a car that is only owned by hoons and racers, i.e its not respectable.
The US market has always been hard on forgin manufactors, and the general US public has a history of being very picky and some what bitchy in thier car buying.

I am not suggesting that everything you say is incorrect. I am only saying that cars are tuned differently with respect to the premium octane levels. Yes the EVO is sold in other places with the same HP as the Japanese spec. As a matter of fact evolution imports sells the EVO VII and VIII (once available) in the US with the same HP. As the attached shows they had to tune the car different in order to achieve the same HP level as the Japanese car using US premium fuel. This is taken from their Q&A section.

Q: Are the engines detuned in the conversion process?
A: No the engines are not detuned. In fact each engine is tuned specifically for the US to produce similar power figures as the Japanese version while on US premium octane fuel.

Take it for what it is worth. It is obvious that I could be the Cheif Engineer for Mitsubishi and you would probably still argue with me.
