Considering to purchase 02 Envoy. Opinions please

Hi everyone,

Here is my situation. I currently drive less than 10k miles a year. I own a 98 ford explorer sport, but would like to get something a little nicer. I stumbled across an 02 envoy at a used car "super dealer" if you would like to call it so. The dealer has no hassle pricing, and moves cars fast. Here are the details

02 Envoy
95k miles
Cloth interior
Automatic
Standard options

I am not too thrilled with the miles, but the price is just under 10k. This seems like a great opportunity to get a better looking car for a great price. Have the Envoys been good cars past 100k? I know that some cars can go without any problems to 100 or 150...even 200k with just standard maintenance, but is the Envoy one of them? Are there just some problems that it's not worth my trouble?

Any input would be appreciated. My other option right now is to go with a newer explorer. Possibly an 01 Eddie Bauer with 80k miles for 8k or an 02 explorer XLT with leather and 55k miles for 12k.

Thanks for the input!

Jason

The most problematic year for this platform numerous tech bulletins and recalls, if they have all been done , a little better, but after owning a 2002 TB for 70k, it has required quite a bit in repairs and still has issues. 2004 up is much better.

I own an 02 envoy. It has 85,000 on it. Its been problem free. I always do maintenance when it needs it done. It was the first model year out, but it really depends on how the thing has been driven and whether or not they took care of it. The miles on that one are up there though.

Just to update the thread...

I decided on purchasing a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Sport with 60k miles on it. It came loaded with digital controls and leather. The price was 9k after my trade in. I shopped around, but couldn't beat the overall package that i found with this car.

Thanks for all of the advice!

Jason

Congrats on your new car purchase!! Allow me to forward an article regarding the I6 engine in GM's T360 vehicles:

No offense, but I wouldnt have touched that Jeep if it came with free gas for life.
