Re: I got a new car but need some info
There are two normal reasons a car will end up with a salvage title.
One, the insurance company figured the damage to the car exceeded it's value (whether that damage was from an accident, water, etc...) and the owner bought back the car from them. Two. A previous owner had a mechanical issue which they didn't feel was worth fixing (ex. bad transmission, blown motor, etc...) and sold it to a salvage yard. Then they fixed what was wrong and applied for a new title. In Michigan, the car can be taken to a state inspector, and if found to be repaired correctly, you can apply for a new, non-salvage title. The only difference is re-sale value.
