Re: Replacing stock cd player need new speakers??

My 99 has the Bose also I blew one speaker trying to find one that would work was a pain. The speakers are 2ohm I did find some Infinity speakers are 2ohm but at $110 a pair I went back to GM. you will probably have to rewire the whole sound system to eliminate the Bose setup. Most aftermarket audio is 4ohm stuff.

Re: Replacing stock cd player need new speakers??

Did they say why? I believe the bose speakers are 4ohm. There should be no conflict with an aftermarket head unit. My door speakers are either bose or monsoon, I have yet to actually be interested enough to find out. They were the seperate 4 rear speakers and the front seperate tweets and mids. I have an Eclipse head unit now and am running a JL amp to them and have no probs. I have changed out the rears to a set of Pioneer 5ways but only because one was blown prior to the headunit switch. The front speakers do surprisingly well. Good enough that I can wait till I find the speakers I really want to replace them with. As long as they are not 1ohm speakers there should not be a problem. 2ohms could cause the amp in the stereo to get a bit hot, you may even consider a small 4 channel amp and run the speakers off of it. Then any heat at all would not be in the dash. You don't need a big amp, a good quality 75watt per channel will make better sound quality then the stereo amp as well. It is small enough to hide anywhere too if you don't want it in the trunk.
Anyway verify the ohms on the speakers and go from there.

The Bose speakers in the Grand Prix are 2 Ohm. Only Bose speakers will work with the Bose amp.

Forgot to ask, why on earth would you want to replace a perfectly operating Bose system? It doesn't get much better than Bose !

Re: Replacing stock cd player need new speakers??

lol you kids know nothing about car audio... bose does not make any where near decent car equipment, i am an enthusiasts and i can tell you from experience. As for the 2 ohm speakers, why not ohm them with a dmm? that way you know for sure??? also, you would be better off completely dumping the stock stereo and going with a nice component set upfront and trash the rear fill... if your looking for audio help just shoot me a PM

my current setup
pioneer premier p880prs
boston acoustic z6 component set
soundstream rubicon 1000 for woofers
kenwood 600 on tweets
***running active***
orion 2500d subwoofer amp
1 re xxx 15" sub in 4.5 NET @ 27hz

my stereo's louder than a gun shot

Pioneer? Boston Acoustic? JUNK!
Loudness means nothing.
I am hardly a kid.
A stock Bose system is a very nice sounding setup. If you like that crappy music they have nowdays do what you like.

Re: Replacing stock cd player need new speakers??

pioneer premier makes one of the best sound quality decks at a decent price... if you disagree with this statement you are simple deaf

the boston acoustics z6 component set is well known for having great sound reproduction due to its merely flat frequency response, one is skeptical to believe if god were in to car audio this is the component set he would choose

have you ever heard the z6 set? I don't believe so, i've never heard of anyone ever say they were not the best speakers they have ever heard!

loudness doesn't mean everything, it does mean something when you have a great sound quality system that can get you as loud as you desire

i was not stating you were a kid, i was implying you were immature for bashing on something you know nothing of.

stock bose stereos are far from what i would consider to be 'decent' however if you like the way they sound and you are satisfied +1 as long as your satisfied with it thats all that matters, for any real enthusiasts the stock bose isin't anywhere near decent

enjoy- if you have anything to add do yourself a favor and don't if you need some tips on car audio i'd be more than happy to answer yours PM's

Q-do i know everything about car audio? No, but i know more than most and I am able to achieve the sound I or anybody I know desires

Re: Replacing stock cd player need new speakers??

teh decipha ? What is that anyway? I still think Bose systems are very nice. I am not into ripping up the stock system only to have some punk steal it. A fancy system in any car invites theft. Being a dealer, I have seen many great cars electrical system and dash butchered by someone who does not know what they are doing. If you do a nice and clean professional installation, which sounds like you can do, I can see that.
PS, try spell check sometime.
