How to make sure box is sealed completely?
I just finished my box for my Assasins but I'm not sure it's properly sealed. My cuts weren't the straightest. First I put down wood glue on all the seams, then I put 2 layers of silicone sealant on each seam. If it's leaking I'd like to know before I get the subs put in. If it can't really be done what would it sound like when the subs were playing if there was an air leak?
Thanks

Re: How to make sure box is sealed completely?
you would hear air seeping from the sides, i put a layer of silcone on the outside seams on my box just to be sure.. But it didn't help too much as I blew my box apart anyways.

Re: How to make sure box is sealed completely?
All of my 4 boxes I've sealed I did silicone and put in the speakers (which you don't want to do) and listened for leaks. Not saying I have more experience but that's the only way I think is most logical.

Re: How to make sure box is sealed completely?
just a thought...
get your hands on an air compressor... cover the sub holes... leave 2 holes in the cover(s)... put the compressor hose in one... the other leave a small opening for air to escape so you don't blow the box... and either listen for air leaving from more than just the port hole you allowed... or find a way to make smoke and watch whether it seeps out thru any cracks... |

Re: How to make sure box is sealed completely?
put some water in it and put the speaker hole facing up
![]() sorry i couldn't resist. when i build my box i just put silicone all over the thing. i didn't test to see if any air was coming out but it sounds pretty good. i'm sure yours is well sealed. if you could do the smoke idea that would be cool. the box may stink afterwards though. |
