Sunfire?

I'm thinking of getting a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire.....not so much because i like them.....but it's more of a money issue, and i can get it at an awesome price, with a 2.4L engine, every option, mag's, upgraded stereo, tinted windows, pontiac decals, black headlight covers, not sure of any engine mods.....we'll see what the guy did to it.....anyways......i was wondering if anyone could tell me the stock performance of the 2.4L engine in the 1999 Sunfires.....I don't expect it to be very good, but i was also wondering if it would be fairly easy to get some half-ass performance out of with some small mods.....also....is there a half-ass sized aftermarket for the sunfire? I know it's a small domestic...and they're starting to become more popular........Civic's are just getting to unorignal...........someone wanna hook me up with some answers? thanks....

Well lets take a look at our friend the SUNFIRE.

Vehicle Weight = 2800lbs
Engine = 2.4 liters
Horsepower = 150
Torque = 155
Gas Milege = 23city/31highway

Since you brought up Hondas we'll use the same year for comparison.
A 1999 Civic Si
Vehicle Weight = 2500lbs
Engine = 1.6 liters
Horsepower = 160
Torque = 111
Gas Milege = 28city/35highway

Over all, I like the Sunfire better. Sorry guys, im a fan of domestic compacts. They make good power, and look alright... and they're different. I cant stand driving something everybody else drives.

But its up to you duder. Sunfires are fairly decent in my opinion.
You can pick one up on average cheaper than a Honda of the same year. And you have (theres that word again) displacement to throw around stock. Which generally means you have the potential to do more with mods. I guruantee nothing though. Good luck on getting the car!

Ok, let the flaming begin about the Sunfire... HAHA.

I always thought they looked kinda sporty, and after seeing the stats on it i'm liking it, I havent heard much for aftermarket, but if you want forced induction I'm sure someone makes a kit, and if you want natural (read bolt ons, like head, header, higher compression pistons etc) asparation (sp) then you may have to look to pontiac, they probally make parts for it.

(thanks for the stats Redneck, been wonderin about the sunfire)

ok......you wanted to know what i'm getting it for....?

ok....... well it's $7600 canadian + 15% tax .....which equals $8740 canadian.......which is approx. $5513 US

I think that's amazing because it has every single option......upgraded wheels...aftermarket shit in it alread (stereo, tint, decals, possibly some engine mods?) and it only has 66 000 km........which is, 41250 miles.............and it's a 1999.......that's why i feel nothin' beats it.....hang on........i'll attach a pic too.......

I think that the Sunfire is a good base to mod from. My only complaint with them is with a lot of their owners who think they have some hot shit stock, when they don't. They are a better choice spec wise over the Honda Civic, though I don't know how the Sunfire fairs reliability wise. You might want to check into what common problems people might have with them.
