Performance Switch Problem

I have a 98' Grande Prix GTP. A few months ago I noticed the performance switch on the th gear shifter was not working anymore. The funny thing was when I would take it from park to a gear it would light up on the dash but once in gear it would go off. At this point of time it doesnt seem to come on at all. I couldnt find a fuse for it but I did notice that when I had a Pepsi spill some got on the switch and it was around the trim of it. I can not figure how to get to the inside of the swith or contacts with out causing any damage to the shifter cover. I also am not sure where it connects to the tranny, I was told by someone that may be where the problem is. Please help!!!

Re: Performance Switch Problem

the wires run to the PCM all the way in the airbox, you can remove the shifter easily.

There is a c clip in the front under the button. The easiest way to see it is to put on the E-Brake and put the key in(so you can move the shifter) and move the stick all the way to 1. Now carefuly use a pick or a small screwdriver to pull the pin forward and out. Be careful not to loose the clip(i dont think it comes out anyway) now you can get to the switch and the wires it uses
