timing belt

i have a 91 integ, that has 166k on it and I am not exactly sure when the timing belt was changed but I think it was around 110 or around that mark could have been before 100k but anyways around 100k, I am wondering if anyone can give me some symptoms of it going bad, or some life expectancy? It's hard to descrip what I hear but it sounds to be coming from the timing belt area, I also have a squeaky belt right by there, but I think they are two separte sounds, the belt squeaking will happen at a little higher rpms while the other noise is at idle. Let me know any feelings you all have thanks,
Rob

Re: timing belt

well if the belt was changed at ~100K then you should be good for another 100K miles....sounds like maybe belt was adjusted wrong or something? take off the valve cover and look for signs of wear or rubbing on the belt

Re: timing belt

Either look for wear or it could possibly be a bearing in one of the pulleys... I've heard some accessory pulleys go bad and they make a horrible screeeching sound. Hurts my ears just to think of that sound... Like nails on a chalk board almost.

Re: timing belt

i believe honda says to replace every 80-90 thousand miles, and you can remove the timing cover and inspect it like you would with normal belts.(rubing, cracking, breaking down, missing teeth, ect.)
