Does and donts

I thought this would be a good thread to start.
things you might not be aware of that you are doing or not doing that are bad or good for your truck or blazer.
This is not intended to turn into an agrument thread, its just a place to post Does and donts, Some of these things are based on fact and some are based on opinions, so please use respect and have fun.
And by all means, please add to the list.
1.When starting, turn the key to the on possition and let the fuel pump prime for about 5 seconds before starting, I read this some were and it just made sence to let the fuel system prime before starting, less work on the system, I guess, but I have yet to replace the starter, and the truck starts up every time.
2.DO NOT SLAM THE DOOR!!! This is a pet peave of mine and it drives me nuts!!! Plus you will end up breaking something if it continues.
3. Lubricate your gas shocks on your gate hatch and window hatch, when they get dry the seals will let the gas out and they are a pain to change.
4. Do not over stear your stearing system, it wears it out alot faster.
5. Have your Tranny flushed at least once every 2-3 years depending on how much you drive. You would beleive how much this gets neglected.
(Ill add more later, im loking forward to some responses

What do you use? I assume you apply the lubricant to the shaft?
I've lost both gas shocks on my '93 and they're not inexpensive to replace.

Re: Does and donts

Do lubricate the keyhole with some graphite lube every once in a while, so then you dont break your key off in the door.........ugh
Do lubricate the window tracks if you have power windows.... they last longer that way
Do have people wear their seat belts.... they last longer that way
Do WAX +detail your car... not only will it look better, it will last longer too
Dont abuse it or you'll lose it

I hate being negative but a knowlegable reply to my query (It didn't even get the usual platitudes) would be helpful. But then, maybe my question was too idiotic to warrant a reply.

Do use WD-40 for everything and anything or 3-in-1

Re: Does and donts

Do, do a search to find answers to your questions.

Do not let little noises go, check them out as soon as possible, it can be the difference between a little grease or a replacement!

Do start to do more and more things for your truck, yourself!

Do get a basic tool set to start out , and build on it steadily!

Do at least buy a grease gun of your own!

Do buy a Chilton, Haynes, or shop manual for your particular vehicle!

Do not just replace parts and hope that it fixes the problem, Check everything that has to do with the system , from the hoses, to the electrical connections ,to the gaskets , and the vacumn hoses.

Do buy quality parts!

Do! Listen to your Blazer!!

I don't agree. Wd-40 has it's uses but there are alot of other lubes out there. WD-40 is a great cleaner with a light lube but it is wet and will attract dirt. They are many places to use dry lubes like powdered graphite- anywhere you don't want a build up of crud.

Re: Does and donts

at least once a year I spray all my door gaskets and window gaskets with silicon spray, and when I wash the engine I spray all the rubber down with silicon also...It seems to make the rubber last longer.

Re: Does and donts

ohh and wd-40 is considered a dry lube, rust and water retardent. but i do agree, some things require a dry lube.
