Front Wheel fell of while driving!- Wheel bearing heat?
i've experienced a few bad wheel bearings, but never this! While my son was on a trip he ignored a ticking squeeking sound. All the lug nuts broke and the front passenger wheel actually fell off the car. At first I thought someone loosened the lug nuts, but then I realized it was probably due to heat generated by the bad wheel bearing. Fortunately it happened at relatively low speed. I pulled off the wheel bearing assembly and the half shaft is rusty. Not sure if I should just replace the wheel bearing assembly or the entire axle section also. It's a front wheel drive T&C 96 There is some in/out play on the axle, so I'm not sure if I pulled on it and messed up the seal going to the trans. I'd appreciate anybody familiar with servicing T&C input's.
