1999 Escort ZX2 Air Cond Hose

I am wondering how hard it is to change one of the hoses on the air cond. The hose runs from the condensor along the bottom of the rad to the compressor. Near the compressor it has some sort of device (shape like a small can) but doesn't seem to have any way of unconnecting the hose from this thing. The hose is steel and rubber in some parts. The rubber section is where the leak has occured.
I am wondering how easy is it to remove and install a new hose here.
