Question A4 bouncing off revlimiter in 3rd?

Hey all,
I have a 1995 Formula LT1 /w the A4 and perform Button. Also has 3.23's, 99,000 Kms(60,000Miles) on it and is all stock except for a K&N in the stock location. I've noticed that under hard acceleration the car will actually hit the rev limiter or whatever at about 5500RPM and won't shift until you back off the gas. It seems that it's doing this in 3rd but it could be 2nd I suppose although it's at about 80+Kph(50+Mph). It doesn't seem to matter if I have it in perform mode or regular and it'll just stay at 5500 until I lift off for a second. Any idea why this is? Also I notice at almost any speed when I stand on it it seems to drop one gear to far, rev's high, shifts and always breaks the tires sideways whether I'm in perform or not. How can I correct this because it definatly drops too far and performance is suffering because of it. I just bought the car from a dealership so it has had some 100+point inspection on it and is otherwise in perfect shape.
Thanks

Re: A4 bouncing off revlimiter in 3rd?

yeah. its supposed to
the way the 4l60E and the 700R4 works, 4th gear is only..ONLY for highway CRUISING. no racing. if you get over a certain amount on the throttle, it will not shift into 4th.. when it seems to be hitting that rev limiter, try backing off on the gas..let it pick back up to that speed, and it should go into 4th. :]

as for the breaking the tires...try get fatter ones. im pretty sure if you had Z rated/WS6/SS rims they wouldnt break loose the tires.. i sure as hell cant erk mine past 2nd [and i dont wanna rev/drop clutch]

maybe your trans is shifting a bit slow, and thats why the engine has time to rev up before it shifts, causing your tires to spin. whatever the reason, hope ya get it fixed! have fun with that beast

Re: A4 bouncing off revlimiter in 3rd?

Thanks for the Reply,
I was hoping for something like this. I just got the car so I was worried that it wasn't normal. I thought about wider tires but the car has brand new Goodyear Eagles at 245/50ZR16 so I figured that would be wide enough. The tranny not shifting fast enough makes sense though because this car has NO PROBLEM breaking 'em loose. When I just drive straight hard in perform mode it will chirp 'em everytime it shifts gears.
