Quick disconnect sway bars question 88 wrangler

if i remove the sway bars from the front and back(w/quick disconnect) does that allow the jeep to articulate more? and is it then classified as a "rock crawler" , of course once it is lifted and bigger tires, lockers, blah blah blah ....is that the basics of makeing it more of a rock crawler type jeep i live in the mountains and would love to see the axles twisted in the complete opposite directions going through ruts and over rocks etc... is that how you do it? also do you remove stabalizer shock up front... i am new to jeeps so please be forgiving if i am completely wrong

Re: Quick disconnect sway bars question 88 wrangler

I wouldn't remove the rears. It could get too unstable and would be more likely to roll. I remove the fronts on my Jeep all the time (when wheeling.)

Also, the stabilizer is fine where it is... leave it alone.

Re: Quick disconnect sway bars question 88 wrangler

thanks! removing the rear one wont help it any... i am wondering because there is a section rocks where i have seen jeeps going through the rocks , and every tire is doing something different and i am wondering if it needs to be removed for something like that? thanks for the heads up on the stability!and i am not sure if there rear bar was removed, can you drive safely with the front one removed permanately?

Re: Quick disconnect sway bars question 88 wrangler

I believe the poster above is thinking of a TJ, not a YJ as the YJ doesnt have a rear swaybar. You do have a rear trackbar. You can remove the rear trackbar all together and probably wont even notice a difference in handling and it will give you more flex in the rear. No danger of it becoming unstable.
I would use quick disconnects on the front swaybar though. That way you maintain a nice predictable street ride then you can disconnect it when on the trail for more articulation. The front trackbar can be removed also but your Jeep will tend to wonder more without it.
If you dont tend to drive it spiritedly you can get by with removing both front and rear trackbars and the front swaybar to totally free up your axles. It will drive just fine but will handle loosely and will sway more in turns.
Dont remove the steering stablizer. That has no ill effect on flex at all.

I personally have removed both trackbars and the front swaybar on my YJ. Ive been driving it like that for years, but its not my daily driver and I dont lend it out to people that arent used to driving it because it doesnt handle like a stock YJ.
