about traction control
hey i have a 1997 saturn sl2 with manual trans.and i was wondering if its ok to drive the car with the trac button off.becous ei noticed that the car drives faster and picks up better when its off.but i dont want to mess anything up if i keep it off.
so let me know if its ok to drive everyday with it off n ddrive hiway like 65-80 with it off.. thanks |

yes it is fine to drive with it off(many cars don't even have traction control). traction control is designed to monitior wheel slip by comparing speeds of all four wheels via the ABS wheels sensors, when wheel slip is detected, power to the drive wheels is reduced, typicilly by reducing the power output of the engine, but some vehicles will also upshift a automatic transmission and/or apply the brakes on the drive alxe. so if you do disable TC, be careful to avoid wheel slip, for the sake of your tires and your driveline.

turning traction control off wont add power. like sierra said, it monitors wheel slip and adjusts to stop/prevent it from happening.
