Steering wheel vibrating
I'm having problems with my steering wheel vibrating on my 95 Blazer. It only vibrates when I get to 50+ mph and worsens when I go around a curve. Doesn't have to be a sharp curve, just when I turn the wheel to the left or right. Doesn't vibrate at all at any speed under 50. Or when going around a curve under 50 mph.
I've just noticed it after I finally got my Blazer from the tranny shop. Never had it vibrate like that b4. The Blazer has set for 2 months b4 I finally got the money (might as well call it an arm and a leg) for the new tranny. Any ideas on what I could check out in the comfort (and I use that term lightly) of my driveway would help alot. |

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
Get a friend to wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while your underneth looking at all the steering compodents. Watch them for extensive movement.
Then if you haven't found any jack up 1 wheel, and try shaking it side to side, then up and down. There shouldn't be much movement at all. Lower that side, then do the other side. Also look for any missing wheel weights, and obious tire damage. |

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
Front end has some worn out parts or you need an alignment and tire balancing.

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
4wd or 2wd? Trans requires the driveshaft to come out too so is the steering wheel bouncing up/down and you feel seat of the pants shake too cause that could be a rear or driveshaft problem. If steering more side/side then front as others said. If 4wd the transfer came out too so check all bolts and mounts - seen trans jobs bust the motor mounts - have the shop do it if they caused it, at least they should be able to pin point the source for you.

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
could be the pitman arm..or the steering stabilizer arm..if both tires wiggle when its up its probably the pitman arm..if only one tire wiggles its probable the stabilizer arm ...just replaced both on mine..if its from the the rear a little more it could be a u-joint...

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
Well.....I found out why my stearing wheel was shaking like a whino during prohibition. Found a couple small flat spots on the very outer edge of the tread. Didn't see a wheel weight on the outside of the wheel but didn't think much of it since there was one on the inside. But when I spotted the small flat areas, thats when my gf told be she had hit the curb with that tire. Several times!
So to make sure it was the tire I decided to rotate them to see if the shaking went away. Could check the ball joints and the idle arms while I had it jacked up also. Ball joints looked fine but idle arm could use replacingbut it's not totally worn out. After rotating the tires, I took it for a test drive. No more stearing wheel shake but could feel a vibration from the rear. So it must have been the tire. Taking it to have a new set put on and have some 4 foot curb feelers put on for when the gf drives it! |

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
Don't put up with your gf driving your ride like that.
It will only get worse and more costly if you don't put her in her place about driving your truck properly.

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
The flat spots coule have been caused by your worn out suspension and now that you have nice even treads on the front the vibration is gone. If you have something worn out up front you risk ruining the other tires too. There's a good chance the vibration will return in a few thousand miles.

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
U-JOINTS. And possibly the worn tires. Both blazers ive owned had the u-joints go bad and at speeds above 40-45 the truck would shake from the rear and you can watch the whole dash shake, hood, mirros, and so forth. Replaced them problem went away. The unbalanced tires can also cause this, my old corolla had this problem. Mine sat for about 9 months, and drive shaft came out so could rebuild the rear, didnt have the shaking problem till the driveshaft came out.
Im glad i have excessively wide tires on my truck my girl is scared to drive it, il post pics and you would understand. People dont tailgate me in the rain anymore either, looks like a jet ski shooting water in the air when im driving in the rain.

Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota. Cardomain |

Re: Steering wheel vibrating
Flat spots on the outer edge of the tire tread? That doesn't sound like hitting a curb. I'd say check your tie rod ends. Just reach under and if you can wiggle one, replace it.
