2001 Civic Gauge Install Help

My friend has a 2001 civic and she has aftermarket gauges already installed on her car. The one thing she wants me to fix is the fact that it has an on/off switch and it is a pain turn on her gauges because the little switch is a dinky push switch. I believe that there is a way to take the wires from the on/off switch and splice them into the wires for the dash cluster that turn on the lights, pretty much making her gauges work like normal gauges would by turning on when you turn on your headlights/parking lights. Would anyone know exactly if this is possible and exactly wires would be used to do this. Thank you to anyone that could help

Re: 2001 Civic Gauge Install Help

Take the power wire from the gauges. Pop out the interior light dimmer switch. There should be three wires back there. Power, ground, and dimmed power (it'll get brighter or dimmer when you move the dimmer). If your friend wants her gauges fully lit every time she puts the lights on just splice it to the power wire. If you want to be able to dim the gauges, splice it to the dimmer wire. I have my tach just hooked up to the power wire. I know I'm going to change the light in there at some point to something other than the regular bulb so I don't and won't mind it being full brightness. Not sure how bright your friend likes her gauges shining in her face though.
