Tapping sound/Almost overheating!
I have an 97 MC and sometimes well rather sporadically my car will make this horrible sound in the morning once it warms up it stops but it is still nerve racking. It sounds like I did not put oil in the car. I make sure to change my oil every 3,000 miles and I check it periodically. I definitley have oil and it is not black! Any suggestions of what it may be. Also my car gets hot quickly if I idle too long. It will never go into the red but it gets pretty hot. and I am leaking coolant....is this the intake manifold gasket...it probably is! I am getting it changed very soon!

Re: Tapping sound/Almost overheating!
Hmm, kinda sounds like a blown head gasket. If it's already making that much racket when you start it, chances are the rod/main bearings are almost toast.
