Water leak

The other day I found that the carpet under the drivers seat was soaking wet. Thats the only place in the whole car that was wet. It wasnt a spill or anything like that. But anyway I dried it up and everything was ok till we had a rainy day. Checked it again and there it was, more water. I havent had a chance to get it up on a hoist to check underneath so woundering has anybody else had this happen? I got down and tried to look under at the floor pan and seems to have a few seams under there. Do you suppose water could come in there? Anybody know if GM has a tsb on this problem? If thats where its coming in I have a can of roofing patch [tar] to just paint the bottom with. This is our first GM in years and so far not too impressed with it.......Regards..Leaky floor

What years the GA? And do you hav a sun/moon roof?

I just found a leak in my 99 GT, it was leaking from the driverside rail for the moon roof, and the rigth drain.

It would run right down the pillar on the side, down onto the dash and my fuse panel, and would get the floor wet.
I hav been for weeks, and it just kept raining
Also the drain hose leaked where it was attached. Used RTV sealer and that seems fixed.

Heres a TSB on a different leak, but could be relavent to your dilemma, not sure on the # of this TSB:

Owners of some 1999-2001 Alero
and Grand Am models may comment
about a mildew odor, windshield fogging,
or wet carpet on the passenger side. And
in ambient temperatures below 32° F, the
blower may not operate due to ice.
The foam water dam under the black
beauty panel(under hood) may be mis-positioned,
missing, or not adhered properly.
On vehicles with foam mis-positioned
or not adhered
properly
Remove and discard the original foam
part. Clean the metal surface with an
alcohol based cleaner.
Install the new part, properly center-ing
the part over the HVAC air intake
opening.
On vehicles built without a
foam dam and old style
beauty panel
Install 18 mm foam.
On vehicles with no foam,
or with 18 mm foam and
new style beauty panel
Install 25 mm foam.

Is that water leak a recall of some sort or just the solution to fix it?

Mine does the same thing on the passenger side on really heavy rains sometimes.

Well my water is right under the drivers seat, kind of in that lower spot directly under. Its a 2000 grand am, no sun roof, 4 door. I suspect it has to be a seam on the floor. The floor seems to be put together with patches so am going to try silicone or rtv on the seams. If that doesnt work I will be back. Just thought perhaps someone else had the same trouble in this same spot. Thanks for the reply..Regards...Denny Crane....

Ya Jon I believe that was a dealer fix, which is free. Though most stealershits dont look up the TSB's some if you take it in tell them thiers a TSB for the leak/fix and they should take care of it.

I'd also check the rubber seals around the drivers door really good. water can trickle in from them if they arent sealing good. Dont take much of a hole to leak in.
Thier might even be a slight wet trail where the waters coming from, like by the door.
My SE's passenger side also leaked from that gasket(on the door jab on the floor part), it had tiny rocks blocking the drainage of the water, so it just leaked inside once in a while.

I had the same problem in my 95. It turned out to be the seal between the floorboard and the firewall behind the pedals. I checked it before and didnt notice anything wrong so i ruled it out. After putting up with wet floors and the smell of old shoes for 3 years i finally tore the carpet up and discovered that it was the seal after all. I resealed it and its PERFECTLY fine.

Thanks Xero. I think I just might have to take my GA into the dealer to see if they can fix it for me.
