Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

Any Aussies planning to attend the Melbourne Model Expo on the long weekend after next? Details are on the Model Expo website. I plan to make the trip and be there on the Satuday and Monday. Would be nice to meet up with local AFers.

Re: Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

Hey Phil,

Helen and I are going to visit for sure. I definitely want to go on the Monday for the swap / sell meet. Not too sure about the other days yet. Would be great to meet up with other AFers.

Grant.

Re: Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

Looks like it is just you, Helen and me so far Grant. Except I'll be trying to avoid the swap and sell.

If anybody hasn't been to the new venue at Sandown, its heaps better than the old one at Flemmington. Free parking, carpeted floor, great facilities and moslt importantly lots of tables full of models.

This year my model club is going to enter the Vic Wills inter club challenge so I'll be transporting about 9 models to and from Melbourne.

Re: Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

I too am not sure about the wisdom of going to the swap and sell. I went to the IPMS show at Telford in the UK last year, and spent about 150 quid at the swap and sell after going 'just for a look'. My biggest problem is that because Helen also models she does not stop me. Just this weekend we went to Hobby HQ in Reservoir, and he had a 1/20th scale Fujimi Renault Alpine A310 in the yellow/black/red Calberson scheme from the 1977 Tour de Corse. I had never seen one of these kits, and it has full engine detail, opening doors etc. It even has some parts and instructions for installing a motor and lights. So after a 'get it if you want it' from Helen, there went $50!

Perhaps I should avoid the swap and sell - the last thing I need is more 'projects'. I think I should concentrate on building. Maybe just going on the Saturday or Sunday to view the entries is wisest.

Are you staying with the stand for you club? What is the name of the club? I'll search you out there perhaps.

Re: Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

I would like to but no money doesn't help.

my mate will be bringing his ENZO over, its a vey nice kit got 98 out of 100 in the Adelaide Expo. He broke his Carrera GT last night so he wasn't very happy at work today.

Went to Sandown Last year for the 500 its a good spot for an expo with the train station at the gates.

Re: Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

Grant, we haven't really got a stand just my club is entering the Vic Wills trophy. I belong to the Wagga and District Scale Model Club, but don't know how or where it will be set up. I'll just be loitering about Saturday morning and Monday afternoon

I'll look forward to seeing your mate's Enzo AussieGTS, sounds like some stiff competition there! Shame about his CGT.

Hopefully our standards are equal to your and you aren't let down when you see it. He is a proffesional spray painter in a dealership over here. From memory the finish on it is off the spray gun - no polish.

Re: Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

Well Expo was great fun, I think the number of models was down a bit this year but there was some stunning stuff there all the same. I'll post some pics when I get back home. Providing they are okay as I forgot to take my tripod.

AussieGTS-T which Enzo was your friends? There were two red ones and a yellow one. The yellow one in particular was extremely nice, won the Enchanced Category. One of the Red Enzo's won OOB too.

RallyRaider I'll post some pics when I get back home. Providing they are okay as I forgot to take my tripod.

SQC, Rallyraider lives about 5 1/2 hours from the show. He posted at 11pm at night so I would not expect any til after 2pm local time today at least, and that is even if he goes home today.

Re: Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

It was red and he built it out the box. I'll have to find out which one was his when he gets back to work.

Re: Australian Model Expo - Melbourne

Oh his must have been the one that took first place in OOB then. Very nice. I had a hard time seeing the difference between the Enzos in the three categories - OOB, Enhanced and Modified.

I've got a lot of pics to sort through. Unfortunately most of them are not that good, either bad flash of too shaky. It will take some time to pick out the good ones, resize then upload them.
