reminiscing your old buddies

Sit back and relax fellas, grab a soda or two, this one might take a while.

So, i'm back home again, visiting my folks before i return back to school and work, back to the city where i went to highschool, back to this little town with a population of about 14,000, back to where it all began. So i've been driving a lot lately, just found out my car still gets about 35 mph, so i'm pretty proud and driving around this little town as usual, and trying to spot any nice cars or what not, you know just cruising and chilling, i look up at the gas station sign and its about $2.90 a gallon, dayum!. Spotted one of my older brother's friend, the dude drives an accord with an alluminum wing and a fart can, i cant believe the dude is still in this town, had his gf in the passenger, i tried to do the right thing and claim victorious, but the guy wouldn't budge, he refused to race, this is the second time i've tried to race him now and got rejected, first time was couple months ago, i failed to take a pix of his "vtec" sticker on the side bumpers. Anyways, i'm ok with that i guess, i'm thinking to myself the dude must not be a racer, its ok,...he's a cool guy too, used to break dance with my brother and his crew when they were younger. Rejected from the accord, i took the curvey road and spot an early 90s stang! maroon color with white strips from hood to rear! i looked a lil closer and noticed the embedded "Mustang GT" on the rear bumper, "ah great" (reverse psychology) i thought to myself, i still wanted to see what it could do, so i followed it for a while, and he decided to turn into a local Culver's store, dude must work there or something, ah well, back to cruising the streets again i guess. Next on the list was a primered early 90s integra, now i have no problem with these since i've killed two LS like this one already, this one had some pretty big and decent rims on, no fart can, but a noticable exhaust sound. I followed suit, traffic was heavy, stop lights wasn't in our favor, and the dude turned into the local Cinemax Theatre, i guess he wanted to go see a movie with his gf who was also in the passenger, ah well i thought to myself. Now, there's a University in this town, not big, but not small either, so i cruise around the University area looking for the local college kids running around, and finally caught a white 3kgt! everything looks stock so i didn't try to race it, i know the base ones are like mid to low 16s or something, but i usually dont pick on stock looking cars. It just happened we ended up at the lights, no one there but us, his windows are down so i rolled mine down

Me: is that thing fast? (I revved slightly)
Him: it's not the vr4
Me: allright, auto or manual?
Him: Manual
The lights changed to green
Him: it's allright man
Me: allright (assuming he didn't wanna race)

at this point i'm just started to head back to my folks place and relax, sh!t the college life is just beating down on me hard and all, i was ready to just sit back and relax for a while, i'm about 3 minutes from the house, sitting at a stop sign waiting for traffic when i noticed a blue talon?!!! as it crawled closer i noticed it was one of my buddy from highschool! he had his windows down so i recognized his face! seemed like i waited for traffic forever to clear, and when it finally did, i hit the gas and tried to catch up to him hoping i've not yet lost him! I'm pacing through traffic and noticed he's stuck at the red lights the lights hit green, and i finally get behind him, coming up real close letting him know i'm there, then as traffic cleared a bit I got side by side with him and started revving he looks over and started giggling dare i say like a little school girl, dare i also say that i noticed the "16v Turbo AWD" sticker on his rear fender, now i knew he drove a talon from rumors in high school, but didn't know it was the TALON TSI!!!!! believe me you, you couldn't miss his bov, a bov just gives me the creeps, and his sent shivers through my spine. His rear trunk was also de-badged of the talon and eagle emblems. I came up close to him, and he just took off, i tried to follow, but that turbo just spooled and spooled further and further away from me. At this point he has no idea who i am or what i drive, traffic was up ahead so i get at his rear bumper again. After cat and mouse for a while, i finally switch over and rolled down my window

Me with a big grin on my face: hey man, long time! you still here? (its been a whole year)
Him: yeah dude, i'm still here, i'm working

traffic was ahead, so after a lil cat and mouse, i switch over again

Me: hey man, lets pull over
Him: what?
Me: pull over somewhere
Him: pull over? ok

we did, near the local dam structure, the convo went something like this

Me: its been a while, what you been up to these days?

He opens his door and walks out, he looks like a total stoner now, i'm not being mean but he was a real clean guy back in high school, he opens a pack of cigs and lights a cig on his mouth

Him: shit, working
Me: damn, so you still around here all this time huh?
Him: yea, i guess, i was too late to apply for college, the waiting list was 1 freakin year
Me: sucks man, where'd u gonna go?
Him: something for mechanical repairs, engines, etc,...
Me: sounds fun
Me: whats done to the talon?
Him: a bunch (he opens his hood and shows me the engine)
Him: yeah, i was racing the other day and blew a hole through my manifold, i just got it back yesterday, look here you can see the damage (he points to the welded hole on the manifold)
Me: dayum, gotta take it easy out there man
Him: yeah, but some of these guys are pretty fast
Me: so what have you run recently?
Him: a couple stangs, cameros, more ls1s' and more lt1s', i raced an lt1 the other day and lost, didn't realize it was an 11 sec car untill i pulled over and talked to the driver

ok now here's a pause in the story and i'm gonna tell you guys about my town, see around here, there's very little rice on imports, usually the rice are on domestic cars such as old old luminas, the old 80s cavaliers or along those lines, in fact, these guys dont even have altezzas, all they have are fart cans, and alluminum wings, the rims are stock steelies, thats pretty much what you see around here, all domestics, its kinda like a red neck town, and the guys that dont drive passenger cars have glasspack trucks that sits higher than a monster truck, ok now back to the story

Me: nice, dont see those everyday, a lot of fast cars here since i've been gone?
Him: not really, not in this town, but the next town always gets fast car, we used to hang there all the time
Me: you guys dont go there anymore?
Him: i havn't been there all summer, life is just too busy
Me: yeh, i know what you mean
Him: what about you man? whats going on lately?
Me: i'm in college, still got about 3 more years before i get my degree
Him: where you going at?
Me: up in the cities (its about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs away from here)
Him: thats the way to do it
Me: so you're gonna keep the talon stock looking eh?
Him: yeah, i want it to look like trash (and believe me it does, rust on the panals, rust underneath the car, the stock exhaust muffler is hanging there)
Me: sounds good
Him: yeah, i still wanna upgrade the engine though, maybe get some cams
Me: leaving the turbo stock? what psi do you max out?
Him: around 19, but i have some leak
Me: nice (his engine setup looked totally mean)
Him: what kinda car is that?
Me: take a guess man
Him: (laffs, and takes a look at my hood) oh no, its debadged!!
Me: lol
Him: (walks to my rear bumper) its uh...uh....shit, the rear is also debadged!! is it a tercel???
Me: nah
Him: wait, is it a toyota? no, wait....is it a honda?
Me: lol, i'll just stop you there, yeah its a toyota
Him: uh....camry? corolla?
Me: corolla, i just need something reliable untill i'm done with college, its slow, all i got is an intake (i open my hood)
Him: yeah, thats good, a better car can always wait untill your done with school, and $$ comes your way
Him: looks good, i like how it sits next to the stock tube, its sucks air from the fender wall?
Me: not on this car, the stock tube gets air next to the battery (me pointing to where the tube starts)
Him: oh i see now
Me: the heat shield helps a bit, i also upgraded my pipes from the cat
Him: yeah, whats your plans?
Me: headers next year
Him: sounds good

we bs around a bit, reminiscing the old days, he told me he moved out of his mom's place and now lives in an apartment, he doesn't see some of our buddies anymore, one of my buddy with an eclipse gs used to hang out together, but its slow so he's getting a 240 next year or something, time flew and we had to part out, told him to give me his phone number so if he ever wanna hang out or looking for an AWD dyno, i could hook him up, since his talon needs a tune badly, he just couldn't find any awd dynos around here, told him there were a couple of them up in the cities, well,......

it was nice finding old friends again, thanks for reading my story fellow AF members, i just wanna share something very important to me to all of you, and thats friendship, keep it real fellas!

Re: reminiscing your old buddies

I took a look at the author, then realized it was probably 12 paragraphs of pure mental retardation. So instead of reading it I went and made myself a sammich instead. I think I made the right choice. Turkey and Cheddar for the win!

I read it as a cool down from my workout and pre sleep read. Wasn't a bad story, could've been shorter but, it was better than watching 3 a.m. infomercials.

I know that feeling, I'm still at home but sometimes I just sit back and pay attention to these people that aren't going to school and their "careers" are for the most part dead ends making $15 per hour. Although one friend of mine didn't go to school and is making more than I probably will when I get done with school...
