Rubber Fuel lines?
Does anyone know where I can get a 3/8 inch rubber fuel hose and some mini hose clamps?
I installed my new fuel filter and line, which crimped, so I cut it up, Piece of...and I'm connecting the rest of the line with a rubber hose. (I got the idea from a 5/16 fuel injecter hose I had, which fit, but wasn't working like a 3/8ths and hard to fit on.)

Re: Rubber Fuel lines?
I wouldn't put just any rubber line on there. If it's a fuel injected engine, it operates under high pressure. I'd suggest braided lines. They can be had at most auto parts or maybe even farm supply stores.

Re: Rubber Fuel lines?
Inner braided is good, but make sure it is rated for at least 100 psi, more is better..

Re: Rubber Fuel lines?
Russell and Earls both sell lines that would work. You're not talking thousand's of dollars either. I think the fuel lines have an inner braided core that's silicon (don't think it's rubber but could be wrong) and an outer braided sheath. Worth the money.
For Example (You'll have to find the size you need, sales people should be able to help) http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=10019 http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=10019 http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=10019 Think of it as the difference between Schlitz and Guiness. They're both beer, they'll both get you drunk, but Guiness tastes good, looks cool and won't destroy you the next morning. Good luck. |

Re: Rubber Fuel lines?
You can get regular hose from any parts store usually, but it must be rated for fuel use (it will say so on the side). This would be cheaper than the braided way, BUT you can not exceed much more than 1 foot in length.
How did you crimp the new line? |

Re: Rubber Fuel lines?
You can use rubber to "patch" the piece, but again, no more than 12" in length, and it must be rated for fuel use, and normally rated up to 90-100psi min.
And, it's not really htat it's thinner, it has more surface area that caused the crimp with too much pressure placed on it. |

Re: Rubber Fuel lines?
3 words, WILD GOOSE CHASE
I went to Roadside Assistance AutoParts, "do you have braided fuel lines?" "we have normal rubber hosing but it won't stand up to 80psi...Go to Speed Planet, they should have that" Speed Planet Guy: No braided fuel lines, Try Morlin Hoses on sunrise, there's a golf course (range) , and XXX store, and a then you'll see a stuffed shark (boat dealer), I found all of these places and no hose shop, plus I don't know how long these stores stay open for. I'll call Napa next. No they don't have it. I can't find this Morlin place in the phone book either.

Re: Rubber Fuel lines?
Call up Jeg's or Summit and order it... it'll take 1-2 days-ish to get to you. If you need it sooner than that, well, better get a phonebook and call Morlin's for directions. I can't believe that none of the big stores (Napa especially) have a braid fuel line.
WTF? And discouraging???? Dude, how about I can't even get door lock pawls to fit my Maro because the jackass that built it (or restored it) used locksets from several different MODELS of cars and nothing fits. $54 worth of new locksets is turning into $200 of ADDITIONAL parts - when you add the bastard shipping - because I want the right stuff. Not FANCY stuff, but I want a 1970 door lock pawl on the friggin thing instead of one from a 82 Citation. What a retard. Not only aren't the gauges not the right year, not only aren't they hooked up, but the damned things don't work either. SO, me rebuilding my transmission, TWICE mind you, has turned into $350 for new gauges, $254 for new locksets, and a boatload of headaches and time. Discouraged... have a smoke, drink a beer, ask your woman for a hummer and relax. It'll all come together, it just takes a little time. |

Re: Rubber Fuel lines?
I wasn't that discouraged, was only thinking about how much more money I'd be spending that was closer to the original repro line price of 65 dollars. I did it, I took that 5/16th fuel injection hose, cut it, fit it and screwed what was left of the aluminum line into the fuel filter. All it needs are hose clamps.
If this doesn't hold up, it's just a temporary fix. I'm gonna get those mini screw clamps, and then it should be tight. Who wants to place bets on whether this succeeds or fails?
