knocking after sittin' 2 days or more??
Any ideas? If I let my '93 B2600i sit for two or more days (a complete weekend) it will start up with a persistent knock or tapping. It sounds like there is no oil on the lifters. I have seen this happen on other vehicles, but it goes away after a few seconds. This knocking or tapping will last probably a good ten minutes of freeway driving. By the time i get to work the noise is gone. Other than that my pride and joy runs like a champ. I do change my oil on a regular interval using mobil 1 full synthetic. Anybody else had similiar problems??

Re: knocking after sittin' 2 days or more??
Most all Mazdas with any miles develop the "Mazda rattle" when started. The trucks are notorious for having oiling issues in the top end.You probably have a lifter with a plugged oil hole and it is taking awhile to pump up after starting. Drain about 1 pint of oil out, put a pint of SeaFoam in its place and run the truck for about 500 miles and see if that doesnt help. If not u r probably going to have to replace the lifter(s). BJ

My 1988 B2200 with only 40K miles did this when I got it in 1994, and it's done it ever since, especially if you let the oil level get low. Yes, they all do this. I wouldn't worry about it.

I worry about this because I tend to get challenged quite a bit on the freeway going to work. I tend to bury my needle quite a bit!

Well, if u r driving the truck that hard, try the SeaFoam and see if that helps. If not, continued use of a truck with a collapsed lifter will eventually lead to valve and/or camshaft failure. So u really need to fix the truck. Lifters are not all that expensive but the labor is>Lol. BJ
