Angry New Fuel Pump, not starting, Security, Check Engine, Clicking in Dash and Humming.

Basically this car has been sitting for almost a year without any one touching it. I was told that all it needed was a fuel pump so without any issues I have replaced the fuel pump in the 95 3.8 v6 lesabre. Now that the fuel pump, fuel filter, and battery have been replaced I figured it was a grand time to attempt starting the car...... that’s when we hit a brick wall. The engine will attempt to turn over but no fire, but If I slowly turn the key to the on position to hear the Pump it makes a loud humming for like 20 seconds and then goes to a lower pitched humming and a rapid clicking starts in the dash on the passenger side...during the clicking the check engine light flashes with the clicking and a security light comes on and off randomly....

Based on other fuel pumps when you turn the key to the on position you hear it run for a few seconds and stop...this is not the case with this Buick.

Also did some tests:

No leaking around the tank or fuel lines

Also unplugged the lines from the engine to see if the pump was working correctly and I found out during the first round of humming fuel is going to the engine and during the lower humming and clicking it is not sending fuel to the front.

Any input would be awesome...because Im at a loss on this one guys

sounds like something is messed up with the relays. i would suggest seeing as you have multiple flashing lights on dash that you see if swapping out the computer with a known good one will work. otherwise, check front passenger side floor for wetness, and under glovebox there is a relay center, pull a relay and check for corrosion. those are a few simple checks. what happens if you crank engine and press on the accelerator?

Look for bad grounds first, then make sure the batt is fully charged.

This particular statement stands out more than any of the others when reading your post. I assume that you are referring to ignition fire, from the coils to the plugs. This particular car, with the DIS ignition system, is designed to fire and run on the ICM for about 8 seconds, if you have a signal from the crank sensor to the ICM. After the engine is running, the ICM will hand over the control function to the PCM. All the other items mentioned, sound PCM related.
Your symptoms point to three possibilities. You could have either a faulty ICM / CPS as well as the PCM. You need to determine why you don't have spark first, fix that then put a used or rebuilt PCM in.

Hello

I take it that you mean by "The engine will attempt to turn over but no fire," is that the starter will turn the crankshaft. Saying that the engine will "attempt" to turn over implys that there is something wrong with the starter system. No fire I would take to mean that you don't hear any cylinders firing.

How does the person that you got the car from know that the car needs a fuel pump? The car could of quit running because of other items.

Am I correct?

Dan

Well the girls father was a professional mechanic and when the car quit he is under treatment for cancer...he said before he passed that all it needed was a fuel pump...

The car randomly stop running at the fuel station...

The car will turn over just not start...

this may sound stupid, but perhaps they filled the tank with diesel? pull a plug and smell it, see if you have fuel delivery. run a pressure test also. post back

Re: New Fuel Pump, not starting, Security, Check Engine, Clicking in Dash and Humming.

I currently have a very similar problem with my 95 lesabre. Turns over but won't start. Does anyone know when the crank position sensor sends the go ahead signal to the ECM? I was showing some crank sensor failures prior to the won't run condition. I don't have access to a tech 1 scanner anymore so I don't know if that problem has led to this. For clarification, I do have fuel pressure on the rail and spark at all plugs. Thanks in advance for advice.
