Saturn Sunroof

My friend has a 2000 Saturn SL with a power sunroof. The sunroof won't open. It goes about 1/2 an inch and then makes the most awful grinding sound. He spoke to the previous owner and was told that it probably came off the track and that there'd been problems with that before. My friend can't afford to take it to the dealer to get it fixed, so we're wondering if there's anyway to access the track without completely destroying the headliner? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Melissa

Re: Saturn Sunroof

well i know second gens had issues with broken sliders, but didnt think 3rd gens did. your problem could be the slider being broken. the sliders in my 97 broke so i pulled one from a 00 and still works. but then that means headliner comes out to pull sunroof.
