Has anyone changed a window motor on a '96 Cavalier. My pass. side is bad and I started drilling the rivets but I havent finished yet. I started second guessing myself. Is there any tricks I need to know? If I take the motor out do I need to take the window out as well? Or will the window drop if I take the motor out. What are the steps? Any ideas. Please respond before I go into this.
Thanks

Re: Has anyone changed a window motor on a '96
I replaced the one on my wifes 96 sunfire. The window need to come totally out but be careful on the sunfire it had clips on the window to keep it from rolling up too far that get in the way when you try to take the window out. I dont know if yours has them or not because she has a convertible and they may be convertible specific. The window is bolted to the regulator with a couple of 10mm bolts with permanent nuts on the regulator. After drilling out the rivets the whole works comes out(regulator assemblyand motor). After it is all out you will need to drill the rivets holding the motor to the regulator but be careful it has a spring in it that is under tension after that it should be bolt motor to regulator making sure you put the spring back under tension and bolt the regulator back into the car. And make sure to use permanent loctite on the new bolts to the motor and if you bolt the regulator in instead of new rivets use it on that too I didnt and had to take it back apart because they loosened up and the window wouldnt roll up correctly.
