cali or fed spec

I'm having alittle trouble figuring out if my "00 GT is cali or fed spec. I looked at the numbers on the firewall but the top set of numbers has a 9 as the second to last number and the bottom set of numbers has a 4 as the second to last number(figures) what set of numbers do I look at? I dont know a whole lot about motors so when I looked under the car for the rectangle thing with pipes coming out I just seen alot of confusion. Also is the only difference between the two is the trouble of putting a after market exhausts on the fed spec? thanks

Do I look at the model number or the numbers at the bottom that arent labeled?

fed specs have only one main cat while cali have two precats and a main. You should be able to see the precats if you follow the exhaust path from the header on back. Fed spec also has only two O2 sensors while the cali has four. Also, if you have a really early fedspec the flange for the cat will be twisted and won't bolt up to any exhaust without modifying it. The bolt holes are at like a 10 - 4 instead of a 9-3 if you were looking on a clock. You will also have to have an O2 sensor bung welded in on the catback if you have a fedspec.

Thanks for the reply but I dont even know what a precat or a 02 sensor looks like. Pretty bad aey? Theres a sticker on the inside of my door that says it meets fed regulations or something like that but I'm not sure if thats what its talking about. The sticker on the firewall has a 9 as the second to last digit of the model number but then theres alonger set of numbers at the bottom of the sticker that has a 4 as the second to last number? The FAQ guide at the top of the forums doesnt say which set of numbers to look at, it just says "theres a set of numbers" well no shit theres a bunch of sets. As far as I could tell theres no rectangle box with pipes coming out but it would probally have to smack me in the face for me to know it was there.

OK, a Precat is simply a catalytic converter right on your downpipe off your exhaust manifold. Then front and year manifolds "Y" togeather and there is another Cat. If you have a set of cats before your main cat then you have a Cali spec. If you dont know what a cat looks like, it will have a heat shield on it, and be much wider than your regular exhaust tube. It will also have O2 sensors in it (there will be 2 wires connected to the O2 sensor that kinda looks like a spark splug in your exhaust). The precats will be smaller than the main cat, but will look similar in shape. Hopefully this gave you a little better idea of what to look for. If you have a Fed spec then the exhaust manifolds will both just go directly to the Y and then to flex pipe, then the main cat. If you look at upgradeing exhausts, they are called "Cat Backs" which means that everything from the main Catalytic converter back is new.

Here's a pic, if you see that o2 sensor with the blue wire sticking out of your manifold you have a Cali Spec. If there is no o2 sensor then its a Fed Spec.

Looks like I got cali. That sucks I was hoping I had fed. I have that 02 sensor with the blue wire and I can see one precat under my car.
