Problem with a 03 Elantra GT

my girlfriends car has an issue with the clutch i believe

when i shift i have to be real easy on the gas or the car will Rev up real high
then the the Revs will come back down and it will drive fine unless i push the gas down hard then the rev's will jump back up

is this a sign of a bad clutch or maybe something worse

Sounds like the clutch may be slipping. To check, get going about 30-40 MPH, shift into 5th, let the clutch out, and hit the gas. If the revs go up without the speed going up, then the clutch is slipping.

Well, I will admit I don't know a ton about clutches. I think once it starts slipping though, that means it is wearing out and there is nothing left to do but replace it.
