'95 Aurora-electrical/starting problem--PROBLEM SOLVED

Here's an odd one: Occasionally over the last few months when I tried to start the car all I'd get is a click. Release the key, try again and it'd start right up. I'm thinking the starter solenoid was starting to go. Then last week the air bag light came on and shortly after that, traction control and ABS lights came on as well...but not all the time. No check engine light or anything like that. Well, I went to start it yesterday and nothing. Dash lights and everything work fine, no click or nothing. Starter/solenoid I think. Now, here's the weird part: I have a remote starter system on this car. It starts using the remote but not with the key. New ignition switch perhaps? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Does the security light flash? These cars have a problem with the passkey wires breaking on the ignition cylinder. The remote start would have a relay and a resistor wired to bypass the system if installed correctly. If anything its something to check.

Re: '95 Aurora-electrical/starting problem

The security light is not on and it does sense the key as checked with an ohm meter. According to the service manual, if the security system isn't working properly, the starter enable and fuel pump relays won't be energized. When you turn the key to ON you do hear the fuel pump run but nothing happens in the START mode. I know it's not the starter enable relay as the car will not start with the remote either when that relay is unplugged. I'm starting to think it's the ignition switch as everything I've checked so far has been good...grounds, fuses, neutral/park switch, starter enable relay, etc. The search goes on........

Re: '95 Aurora-electrical/starting problem

Problem now solved. Turns out the ignition switch was bad. Figured this out by turning the key to "ON" and jumping across the yellow and red wires on the switch harness, left hand side of steering column. Car popped right off. Replacement harness/switch was $170.00-more money in the pit.

Thanks.
