94 temp gauge // rear windows (not related)

My mother drives a 94 taurus. I recently took it for a drive and noticed that the temperature gauge was not moving. What would be the cause? air in the lines? Would this also stop the fan from turning on?

Also (unrelated)
Both back windows do not roll down. I do not think it is the motors, maybe wiring? Is there a fuse for them?

Thanks

For the temp gauge, check near the thermostat housing for the sensor, pull the connector on and off a couple of times, maybe some corrosion in the connection,, try that first.. as for the rear windows, it's a notorious sore spot for the Taurus cars, at least up to 95 year, not sure if corrected, or improved, after that year.. most likely the motors have failed, very common..

So by "not moving" do you mean it was staying on the Cold side? Possibly the thermostat is stuck open. Or, it is possible that there is air in the system, but that typically would lead to a guage reading erratically and jumping around. The cooling fans are controlled by the coolant temperature sensor while the guage is controlled by the coolant temperature sender. Both look very similar and are mounted near each other. If the engine really isn't warming up (due to a stuck open thermostat) then, yes, it will prevent the fans from coming on.

As for the power windows, do the switches on the doors work them, just not from the driver's door? Make sure the "Window Lock" is not enabled when you try this. All four windows receive power from the same circuit breaker in the fuse panel and are fed through the driver's door controls. You may want to check for continuity from the driver's door control to the rear door switches and troubleshoot from there.

Re: 94 temp gauge // rear windows (not related)

alright. thanks alot for the replys.
As for the the rear windows. It started off as one not working. then a few weeks later, the other stopped. There are switches in the back, as well as the main ones on the drivers door. The window lock is not on, and the other 2 front windows work fine. I did not start taking apart the switches yet and checking voltages because i wanted to see if anyone had a similar problem and knew the solution. As for the motors, they could possibly be dead. You can flip the switch, but nothing happens. Not even a sound of the motor trying to do anything.
