Angry 96 Jetta, Can't find OBDll plug

Hello Group,
Because my check engine light is on, I've tried without success to fine the OBD test plug. Just under the steering wheel is a sticker that says it is located beside the ashtray. I pulled out the ashtray and looked for the cover that is supposed to side left but no cover could be found. I then took out the screws that hold the ashtray/ heater control assembly. I removed the whole assembly and looked for the test plug but nothing was there. This is driving me crazy. Where is this blasted thing? This is an early 1996. Can anybody help?:banghead: :disappoin

You will have to remove your front ashtray all the way out. Then there is a small cover on the right of the ashtray above the power outlet/cig lighter, remove that cover and the OBD connector will be there.
