Well, only if by "evil" you mean illogical. As for beginning of time - Islam is a pretty new religion. Maybe once islam has grown older and wiser it's adherents will become a little wiser too. Afterall, even christianity went through some periods of puritanical maniacs, and more than it's fair share of complete and total assholes (a few still pop up every now and then even today).

Exactly what he says, some followers of Islam are very barbaric in thier interpration of the Koran. They simply use it as a good excuse to be very uncivilised.


As for the age of Islam, well it is one of the newest religions around. It post dates christianity which is less than 2,000 years old, and is also and off shoot of Judaism, whcich itself is not very old. The whole idea of there being only one God is a relativly new concept in Human society.



In comparision with the dark ages in Europe I think Islam is considerably more civilised than the "christian" churchs of the time.
It already has a seperation of science and religion, and up untill the end of the dark ages a lot of very scientific steps were made in the middle east. The Concept of Zero for example is Arabic, dark ages christians were unable to concieve of it.
However, Islam is still heavily tied up with politics, something that Christianity escaped from when it was seperated from science during the renaissance.
Islam still needs to face its renaissance, and there is some speculation that it is building up to one. With the impacts and influence of western society on more and more of the worlds cultures I think it is inevtiable, and likely to happen with in our life time.
Unforunatly given the power struggle between the islam leadership, and the people wanting to break free from it will not be pretty.

Yes it was during the time of The Umayyad Empire. The reason its considered more civilized is because they bought education/literature/mathematics/unique clothing?/trades/ etc....
